My 30 year old sister is now on Prozac for she’s been diagnosed with moderate depression and is prescribed SSRI’s, until recently she’s been on paxil and zoloft, and they seemed to work well. But since recently she has nausea and vomiting and I wonder if SSRI’s causing abdominal pain. I would also like to hear general info about SSRI’s side effects. Thanks.

It might be that SSRIs causing abdominal pain though the SSRI’s side effects are very rare and even when they occur are usually mild and temporary so I don’t think that this is something you should worry about. But anyway if you notice any changes such as this it’s better to discus it with the doc so he might change the prozac for some other type of SSRI for the abdominal pain might be prozac related in your sister’s case. And though SSRI are the group of very safe antidepressants that are well known for their good effects and are also known for the very rare side effects of these antidepressants but for your sis it’s more likely that she won’t experience any serious side effects for she’s been taking them for so long without any difficulties. As for other SSRI’s side effects she might experience diarrhea and insomnia also, but also some bleeding and fatigue as well as jaw and muscle pain but usually those side effects are temporary and mild and it usually is enough to change the pills or to change the pills dose.
