Does everyone have withdrawal symptoms ? I have been on 75gms for 8 years and 150gms for last 3-4 years. I should have gone off them 10 years ago. Blood pressure went up, weight went up. I'm 70 and I'd like to die in my own personality, not a manufactured one through chemicals.

Effexor XR is the hardest of all the SSRI's to come off of.  Your doctor won't tell you that when he prescribes it.  It has some of the worse side effects as well.  If you want to come off it safely, look up the Road Back Program.  It is a free website that tells you how to do it safely and without side effects.  It does recommend some supplements to take but it has an 85 to 95% success rate.  Most people who try to taper Effexor XR on their own or with their doctor's advice end up going back on it again because of the side effects or what they think is a relapse of their condition (i.e. increase in anxiety)but it is just the withdrawal side effects from the drug.  It can take 6 to 8  months to be totally free of symptoms.  It is an evil drug that should be banned.  I was told long term use can lead to dementia.  I would highly suggest you try to get off it.  As I said, read what The Road Back Program says about antidepressants and specifically Effexor.  I think you will find it very helpful and interesting.  If you need help or therapy, I would highly suggest hypnotherapy if you can afford it.  It really does work.  I just finished my third session and I feel 100% better than when I started.  I went on Effexor XR for anxiety 5 years ago and tried three times to get off it and failed due to withdrawal side effects.  This time I know I can do it because of the hypnotherapy and the suggestions in the Road Back Program.  It is possible.  Don't give up hope.
