Hello, I'm 17. I had unprotected sex on the 25th of December and took an ipill immediately. I again had unprotected sex on the 31st of december and had an ipill. As I was suffering from tonsils, I had a few other medicines with the ipill such as zocef 500, pentop D. I was supposed to get my periods around the 19th of Jan. I missed them and took a pregnancy test on the 20th. It was negative. my periods are 6 days late and I am tensed. What's the problem? What steps should I take further?

Hi Affu,

The "problem" is likely the Ipill.

NEVER take it more than once per cycle.  It is an "emergency contraceptive" not a birth control pill.  There is a big difference.  It contains a very large dose of hormones.

Common side effects, which you can expect, include your next SEVERAL periods being early or late.  They can also be heavier or lighter than normal.  You may have spotting/cramping/bleeding and can have sore breasts as well.

By taking it twice you increased the chances and severity of any side effects.  Again, they can last for months.

It is unlikely you are pregnant.

Hope it helps.

Thank you so much for the reply. Should I visit a gynaecologist? I'm 17 and a minor and so I'm extremely worried about the situation. Is there any way I can resume my periods? Any measures I should undertake?

There is nothing you can do to "resume" your periods. The hormones in the Ipill just need to work themselves out of your system.

No need to see a doctor. Just be patient.

Thanks again. Also, I want to start using birth control pills. I have no information on them. Can you help me out? Which ones should I buy? I don't really want to visit a gynaecologist and want to use them by myself. Is that possible? I'm from India. Thanks again.

Sorry Affu but I can't help you with this. There are many types of birth control pills available. In this country (US) they require a prescription so you'd need an examination by a doctor.
