I had my last depo shot in aug 2006; my first period since going off was two weeks ago. Prior to my period I experienced insane breast swelling and tenderness. Now I'm getting another period (one week after my last bleed) and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.

I used Depo from 1999 - 2006 on my G.P's advice that it was perfectly 'safe' and had no side effects other than no periods. In September '06 after reading online risks I demanded a Bone Density Scan and to my horror Depo has caused Osteoporosis. I am 30 yrs old!! My skeleton is equal to that of a 70 yr old woman thanks to Depo. I had no period for 7 yrs, my oestrogen levels are now exremeley low and indicate I've gone through early menopause, my G.P refuses to test for this at this stage. I also had 4 stone weight gain - wich I have now lost with extreme dedication, mood swings, blurred vision, chronic abdominal pain, lack of lubrication , exhaustion and more.I continued with the Depo unaware it was the cause for 7 yrs. Only on a friends advice end 2006 I Googled Depo side effects, what I found was shocking. To all you women out there on this crazy drug, look up the side effects, go to the manufactureres website - pfizer.com, GET a copy of the patent info sheet, this is no good for you. I've been off it 4 months and no period yet.
I have had sore nipples for 5 days now, thought I may be pregnant but not - luckly! I have terrible hot flashes in the night I wake up saturated in sweat in the groin and underarm area, I still get exhausted toward the end of the day. Stomach pain has ceased now and still losing weight.

I was on depo from 1997-2007, I have been off now for 2 months and had the same sideeffect you are talking about. I had a bone density at 7 years and was told that I had to before they would continue giving me the shot. Thank God, mine came back normal. But I have had the hair loss, weight gain and now am growing new hair, having a struggle with the weight loss, but I am working on it. Yes, others need to know, this is not the miracle contraceptive that you can go without periods. Currently I would think I was having a period from all the cramping that I have been having, mood swings galore and especially the emotional roller coaster I dont remember getting on. I have been taking an herb called "Dong Quai", it seems to mellow me a bit, but not completely. Do your research on your own before you would take this drug. It is no longer worth it.

I started my depo provera shot back in September of last year and missed my shot this past Monday the 12th. as of that day, before going to my clinic I started bleeding normal/heavy for my pre-depo state. As of right now, within the past couple of hours I've lost a bit over 2 ounces of blood, mainly clots. I slept for over 16 hours yesterday. I'm wondering if these could be symptoms of me getting off the depo-provera. Any help would be appreciated

I was on Depo from april 2002 until may 2006. I loved it while I was on it aside from the weight gain. I suffer from endomitriosis so it was a life saver for me. I was once again able to have normal functioning.

However, due to the weight gain my doctor took me off of it and put me on BCP. Unfortunately I developed a blood clot in my leg and no longer able to be on any BC.

I started getting my period again in November 2006 and had a regular period for Nov. Dec. and Jan. I have not had a period since. I have taken several preg. tests all negative. I am wondering if anyone has experienced getting their period and then it stopping again. I have not experienced any symptoms of my cycle since jan. but I have experienced my tummy area becomming more "fluffy", but the scale says I have not gained weight. It seems like my fat is moving all to my stomach. Has anyone experienced this as well?

Any thoughts or comments would be appriciated

I have been on Depo Provera for about ten years and a couple of years ago, I noticed that I sweat a lot. Beads on my forehead when I dry my hair, sweating when I'm getting dressed, and I can literally be doing nothing in the summer and I will be sweating like a pig! It's really embarrassing to me bcause I am a lady not a SWEAT HOG!! I was due for a shot this month and decided to take myself off. I am kinda bummed because I really liked being on the shot. I feel like it puts our body into a "menopausal state" with like symptoms of menopause and I am hoping that this sweating will eventually go away. Anyone else been doing all this sweating too? Thanks!

I am glad to hear other people's experiences are somewhat similar to mine. I didn't gain weight on while Depo , I thought it was great, no periods, and no exshaustion that comes with losing all that blood. Now that I've gone off Depo, I've put on 15 pounds off eating very little and excercising approx 5 days per weeks in the last 3 months. I cry very easily, too. My metabolism is non existent, and my periods are weird. The fist one was 10 days, and the second one was only 3 days long. I have been seriously wondering if I've got a thyroid problem. I've started taking a hormone balancing supplement with black cohosh and such in hopes that my hormones will get back to normal and give me a reasonable metabolism again. I've considered seeing a doc, but I am hoping to solve this on my own, as I haven't had the greatest experiences with docs in the past. Has anyone else had a very sluggish metabolism after discontinuing Depo? If so, how long did it take before you didn't gain weight just by looking at food? :-(

I went off Depo about 5 months ago after being on it for 2 years. I never had a period while on it and just now my period has returned but it won't stop. I used to have long periods before but this is the longest I've ever had... going on 2-1/2 weeks and no sign of slowing. It's not too terribly heavy and no cramping so more of an annoyance than anything. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this side effect when going off of it?

I had been on depo provera for a very long time. I had got on it when i was 14 and i am now 18. My boyfriend and I are trying to have a baby. We have been trying for a few months. It seems impossible and Im starting to wonder if being on depo for so long has made it impossible for me to concieve? Im kinda worried and very afraid that Im not going to be able to have kids. My periods are normal now. I have been off the shot for a year at least. What could possibly be wrong with me? If any one has problems that relates to this please contact me.

It has been hard for me to find a post like yours, most people seem to not have periods for ages after DEPO. But I have been bleeding heavily, constantly for 5 weeks. My last shot was Dec. 1, it is now April 17. I have been cramping, had sore breasts (not sore anymore). I have been having to change tampons about once every 1-4 hours, for 5 weeks straight!

My doctor is no help. She said she didn't know why, (and she didn't seem to care), and gave me 5 pills of progesterone at 10mg (the higher dose), and said that should fix it.

WELL IT DIDN'T! I have another appointment today with the same doctor because getting in to a freakin' Gynecologist takes MONTHS, they don't care if you are bleeding to death or not.

Here's another $30 co-pay down the toilet. If anyone else is experiencing constant bleeding, please post and let us know-----I was beginning to think I was the only one.

Thanks

I have been on Depo for 13 years. I am 36 and have just been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis! The last injection I got in Feb of 07, the Nurse asked me if I had ever had a bone density test. My dr never suggested this and I saw him yearly for gyno exams and to continue the depo. I always purchased the depo through my gyno so never saw the warning label that says it causes serious bone loss until this last shot when my insurance changed and the dr office said I had to purchase the depo at the pharmacy and bring it to the office. I can't believe that this dr as well as my family physician dropped the ball on this.
I was hoping that your doctors have recommended you get a bone density test or at least an xray to rule out bone loss. I am sorry to hear of your cancer and wish you the best outcome.
I just went to my dr because my legs were going numb and one arm was going numb and I had real hard time lifting my legs. I thought herniated disk which is still a possibility.
I urge all of you women to please check your bone density after a couple of years on this drug. I have truely loved it (other than the menopausal symptoms being annoying) for the past 13 years and now I am far beyond mad.
