My father is 60 years old and for a long time has been dealing with heart issues and has been taken meds for his angina pectoris. I know that it is a severe condition and that it has to be treated not only with meds but with healthy life too. But I am still concerned because of the long term use of diuretics. What can it do to a patient?

Each medication carries some risk with it, meaning that all of those have some unwanted side effects. It is true that diuretics affect the level of electrolytes but with a proper use and compensation for the loss of those electrolytes, those meds should be very helpful. Still, their use has to be monitored; therapy has to be taken regularly with the exact amount of medications prescribed. Of course, electrolytes level has to be checked from time to time.
