Hello! Can anybody tell me what is the influence of St John’s wart on the birth control pills. Do they react in some way? Because my doctor recommended me St. Johns but when I told him that I do take BC pills, he changed his mind and prescribed me something else.

Hi! I heard that St. John’s wort weakens birth control pills and many other medication causing some serious problems. I think it is not recommended to take it with other medicines after the surgeries or something!!! You could ask your doctor, he probably knows as he didn’t put you on it!!!!

when it "weakens" it how efective does it become, I've also read that it takes several months for birth control to get out of your system which could also lead to a pregnancie not working, MY girl friend and I just found that St. Johns Wort decreases the effects of the pill and she is freaking out because she thinks shes pregnant. I've also read and been told there are no REAL side effects for the first month and she got her period last month, can anyone help, either for providing statistics or explain to me how to calm her down

I was on St. Johns wort for about two or three months before it started messing with my period. First there was some spotting, then I was just full out having my period like twice a month. Before the medication I was having perfect periods that fell on the exact day I thought they would. I quit taking it and everything went back to normal. I'd say it effects birth control.
