GIRLS LISTEN UP if anybody is to tell you that birth control does not cause you to get fatter they are strait up lying to you. the Depo shot makes you gain so much wait. along with other types of birth control and on top of that since your body is not adapted to any of this new medicine you are going to experience all kinds of different side affects but the worst one is caused by the depo shot i STRONGLY RECOMMEND any woman from taking the shot it will harm your body in some pretty bad ways just do some research on it before you make up your mind because once you get it,it will remain in your system up to a year. after you stop using it......so good luck!!!!!

Uh.. you're wrong. I'm on the depo shot. Have been for a year. I haven't gained weight, really. I didn't untill I got depressed and started eating like a pig, and even then, I gained, what? Five pounds? You need to look into things more.

This is wrong.
Ive been on depo for almost a year and ive actually been about 5-10 lbs lighter since i first startd on it..
Birth control works different for everyone. it all depends on your body.
some girls gain weight, other lose weight.
Theres no way to tell for sure what your bodys reaction will be until you try it.

Well, maybe everyone needs a little bit of research :-) I'm currently on the "no-name brand" of Yaz. I was on Yaz for about 3 months, and all that did was give me insane cramps and a late period. I've been having sex with the same person too, and just recently started getting the brown discharge. It looks almost as if I'm having my "uterine lining period" or so I call it haha. Naturally, when your birth control WORKS and you've been on it for a pretty long time, it's going to be brown. That - and your period. You know when you've missed any pill because of the deepened red period mixed with brown sticky gook. What happens on birth control is your uterine lining gets thicker, very-thicker causing the sperm to not be able to enter. It's not a magic pill that kills sperm as it hits your vaginal walls haha.

I've been on birth control since I was 14, and I am now almost 18. It's insane, like the other person said - your body thinks you're pregnant! haha well mine thinks its been pregnant for almost 4 years. I've only been sexually active since I was 15. And even then, my "sex life" on a "regular" basis didn't start until I was 16.5.

I've been on a couple of different birth control pills. The ones I remember the most are Kariva, Yaz, and Quasense (a verson of seasonale.) Each have given different side effects. No pill is THE SAME.

About the weight gain, hm. It goes by each person and their body type. You're putting all these insane hormones into you, if you don't really need the hormones in the birth control, go and get the ring, or something that doesn't give you any sort of hormone. I've been tested for PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome), and all different types of hormonal issues. I need the hormones, and even though I have sex - even if I didn't my butt would still be on birth control! It's not fun, it's not cool, it's not really anything. When you put your teeny little body through all this c**p, when you do not need it your body is going to overreact, create all these weird things, and try and adjust to the overload of hormones. I'm over 200lbs my body can some what handle all this pressure, and the added fact that I do need the hormones. If you're 100-140 pounds your body is going to overreact, you're going to over eat to try and get stronger to handle all of this!

Trust me, it may sound idiotic and stupid - but the only reason girls get their period is because they hit the ideal weight of their body to get their period. You wouldn't think that, but it goes by weight. Why do you think some very skinny girls never get their period? Sure, I'm not saying that all big girls get their period! Everything is science, and all that boring c**p. I'm going to school for midwifery, I'm kind of a lame=oh when it comes to knowing all this stuff.

But really, it happens to everyone. Don't point fingers at the birth control brand - or what your friend has had from that. I've not gained weight on Karvia, and gained weight on Yaz. It's really all about you.

Actually....the pill can cause you to gain a little weight. Other than making you want to eat more, it's common for your body to retain a little bit of water. It goes away when you stop taking the pill. When I first started it (three years ago) my doctor told me to expect to gain between 5-15 pounds. I gained ten, and it always goes away if I have to stop taking the pill for a month or two.

And I'm having the weird brown stuff too. I've gotten it occationally in the past. But I recently (as in, three/four weeks ago) started having sex, and now would be the time for "symptoms". I missed my pill a few days ago, and am a little scared of being knocked up. But I was in the hospital with kidney stones the week before last (or something like that. D:), and the doctors told me my tests came back negative. I have trouble believing that blood tests could get a result that soon. It was a week after I had sex.

Since I'm freaking out I think I'm going to stop taking the pill and see if I get my period. I'm on a perscription that eliminates it, due to severe cramps.

Listen up to those of you who think birth control doesn't make you gain weight!!!!!! I am proof that it does. I starting taking Yaz in August of 2008 and by Feb 2009 I had gained 60 pounds. I didn't eat anymore than normal and I still continued my normal exercise rutine which is cardio 3 to 5 times a week and I have 8 dance classes a week. I have always ate healthy foods, fruits and veggies and stayed away from junk food. Being a ballet dancer has taught me how to take care of myself. I still gained 60 pounds really fast by taking Yaz. My Dr. even said that's what caused it. She took me off of it and I gained another 22 pounds within 2 months because it messed my body up so bad. I stopped having periods as well. I developed a lot of health problems from it and now I have to go through a special process to even have a baby. I have had 3 different Dr.s tell me it was caused from taking Yaz. I have lost all of the weight now thanks to proper meds ( still haven't changed my eating habits or exercise rutine) and I can even take birth control (Kariva). It has helped me be 100% regular. I've kept the weight off for about a year now thanks to not being on Yaz anymore. So if anyone ever tells you that NOBODY gains weight from taking birth control and that if you do gain weight it's from eating too much THEY are the one's that need to check THEIR facts. I am living proof of that.

Then change your method of birth control Ortho Evra Tri Cycllin Lo actually caused me to lose like 5 lbs... So everyones body is different just as each birth control method is different. Its pretty naieve to say that all birth controls will cause all women to gain weight.. just saying..

I reccomend the pill. Its been around the longest and has the least amount of side effects.

I've been taking Yaz since 2009-2010, I'm in highshool and NOT sexually active. I've been experiencing weird vaginal discharge it is uncomfortable. It makes it dry down there, it itchs and I get small lacerations. Should I get off the pill? And how do I tell my mom about this? Will she think I wasted her money?
