I have had cortisone injections off and on over 25 years for different joints. Mine is almost a dull headache istantly then escalates. Mine last about 24 hours and does get rough. I have migraines periodically and this is like a migraine. My Orthopaedic tells me that this is a side effect of the cortisone with me. I also will get what I call the "cortisone glow"...light red face that feels hot... It will come on about 15 hours after injection for a couple days. I just had both hips injected today and right now my head is pounding, nothing helps the headache but I know I will have relief in hips very soon, in fact,already am.

Wow, looks as if it's becoming a trend. Had three into the left hip on Monday, 9/19/16 and sitting here on Thursday 9/22/16 with a "Screaming Mimi" of a headache since that afternoon series.
So, now what?
Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone 10/325, Morphine 60mg, nothing at my disposal has helped.

Thank you. I have never had a headache from the shots but my friend got is first shots yesterday and woke up with a terrible headache.

Same thing happened to me. Got a shot in both knees in the morning. By late afternoon I had a bad headache that did not respond to Tylenol. Lasted 2 days, as well as the flushed feeling and red cheeks. Insomnia was the worst though. Averaged about 4 hours for a couple of days. Feeling much better today though!

I just had a cortisone injection in my shoulder, and within an hour I developed a severe headache. I took extra-strength Tylenol with aspirin and caffeine ... but it's not helping yet. Based on the number of posts I found here, there must be a link between the injections and headaches.

I got 2 steroid shots in my knee Monday. Today is Friday. I've had a constant headache and my face is flushed (and looks puffy) since Monday. My knee pain has subsided some but the throbbing, constant headache is miserable. I have torn ACL and torn meniscus(5 weeks) now. Waiting for insurance to okay P/T.

Definitely causes headaches, I've had my back injected twice and my knees injected every two months for more than two years. I always got a nasty headache starting a few hours later and lasting a day or two. The back injections didn't even work, But the knee injections are magical - well worth the headache.

I recently started getting severe headaches and sweats after steroid injections although I was unaffected in the past. They usually last two days. I read that someone had taken Benadryl to relieve them so I tried it at 2:00 am and by 6:00am the headache was almost gone. They said that they took the Benadryl before the headache started the next time they had injection and never got the headache at all. I am a believer...worked for me.

I too have had injections in the past without side effects. Now I had an injection in my knee and have a bad headache as well as an upset stomach.

I got one in my knee yesterday and headache began last night. I didn't think it was related because it didn't happen when I had one in the spring. Seems to be a common occurrence....someone suggested I lie back and put warm compresses on my forehead, but somehow I don't think this will help. Advil maybe???
