I found this blog after googling wellbutrin gambling problem. You see since i have been taking the medication 18 months i have developed a serious gambling problem. I had absolutely no interest previously. This is hundreds of thousands, I Asked my doctor if a new gambling addiction could have any relation to wellbutrin and cipralex but he didn't sound concerned. Before i go bankrupt I would like to know if there is a solution, or else wean myself off this and hope it subsides. Does it go away when you are off ?

Yes. It definitely seemed to increase behaviors for me. I don't gamble but I did go on an unusual spending spree when I started it. I also noticed I would get deeply wound up into whatever activity was before me, even if there was nothing gained from it.

I started taking Wellbutrin about 6 months ago, got over the initial side effects, and was moving along. Then I got interested in LEGOs. I am an adult, and other adults like Legos too, but I HAD to have ever sort of Lego I might ever need. I would start to think about it even when I was supposed to be concentrating on work. I would think about what I needed and how to get the best price for them. I have spent more than $1,000 on them. $1,000 for small pieces of plastic. And I don't have money to throw around.
I think I finally have all I wanted, but this thread has sealed the deal for me, I am going to stop and use what I have. Thank you so much everyone.

Hey Kim, not compulsive gambling, but compulsive pornography viewing. Really totally obsessed. I have been on Wellbutrin for about three years for three years. I am an above middle-aged male who never even had a remote desire for porn before in my entire life. Happily married, no other obvious triggers. No other compulsive behaviors of any kind in my life like this. I keep telling my wife that I cannot figure it out -- the compulsion just will not leave my brain. It is a hellish world. So no, no gambling, but a definite obsession. I'm gonna slowly cut back on my dose and see if I can keep the good effects and lower the compulsion factor.

The doctors do not want to listen to this, and say there is no correlation to taking Wellbutrin and gambling addition but I think they are wrong...I am still on Wellbutrin and still gambling but I am trying to stay away from the casinos, cutting up all credit cards, and only having a savings account where you physically have to go to the bank to withdraw cash...and trying to find alternatives methods to deal with the addiction. Good Luck...glad to hear so many other people are affected by this. I know Parkinson medications can cause gambling addictions as well.

I would go to the casino in the past would only spend 40 just for fun after taking cymbalta I have gotten completely obsessed with gambling lie to my husband also cashing checks spending more than I have not cashing out when I did win eg 1,000 dollars got a loan on my paid off car plus I can't seem to stop completely out of character for me. I am sure I have gotten a gambling addiction only after being on antidepressants . I don't know what to do?!

I have loss a lot of money after taking cymbalta also. How come abilify is the only antidepressant with a class action law suit?? I am not the type to sue but my gambling is out of control and was not before?

I was on wellbutrin SR (buprion) generic form and took it for the last year and a half.I live in Las Vegas and last year I lost $100,000. I knew I had lost alot but didnt know that much till I requested a win/loss form. I went even playing bingo first in casinos to keno, poker, and roulette. I started betting very high amounts. I know when I played roulette I would bet $1,000 each spin. I had a hard time leaving the casino. I actually lost a job due to my gambling got worse. I couldnt work because I was so obssessed with gambling. I skipped meals to stay gambling. I even fail asleep at the machines a few times. I felt my heart racing and sweaty feeling alot. I took the medicine after being diagnosed with PTSD. Maybe 6 months ago they switched me to 300mg of the wellbutrin xl and its the highest dosage I am told. My gambling is getting worse. I was 275 lbs. And I lost 44lbs. In the 6 months of taking the medicine. I think something is wrong but doctors think I am better because I am loosing weight. I feel like I am on speed or something and dont feel right.

I also have taken Bupropion for years and didn't start gambling until about 3 months into my treatment. The addiction is very real and quite troubling. Something has to be done. It sounds like I need to get off of this medication...quickly. It just seems just like Abilify that we need to do a class action suit against this company!
