My girlfriend and I are planning to have unprotected sex. She has been on the pill (Minerva) for months, we've had safe sex a couple of times already, but now we've both decided to do it unprotected. The thing that concerns me is that she has her period for 3 days instead of the 7 than she usually had when she didnt go on the pill... is that normal? i thought the pill was to prevent the menstrual completely? So now to the big question... CAN I still have unprotected sex with her even though this happens? Are there specific times we shouldn't have unprotected sex or not at all? Somebody well informed, please help me asap!

Hi fishstix, if your girlfriend is on the pill then what the pill actually does is regulate hormones so that her period is regular, not that it eliminates the menstrual cycle altogether. You can have sex with her whenever while she's on the pill, although I would recommend that if you are going to have unsafe sex that you're both tested first so that you know you're both clean. And then, you do have to realize that you're reliant solely on her to take her birth control so just realize the responsibility that you're giving up. I hope I'm not sounding preachy because I'm not, just trying to point out to you the responsibility here. Keep us posted on how you're doing, okay?
