I need help with SLE. I am not the one who has it, but my sister, 43 years of age. She has been experiencing muscle pain and joint pain from time to time (sporadic attacks). Now, she is using corticosteroid when she has those attacks and they do help her. Still, I do not understand how there is no cure; there must be something that could help her permanently, right?

I must disappoint you and say that there is no effective cure against SLE, one that could take away all the trouble once and for all. There are just medications that help eliminating the symptoms, when they occur. But, on the other side, there are many diseases with similar symptoms that end fatally in several years (ALS for example), so when you look at it in that way, she was lucky (if we can say so at all). Today;s medications (including corticosteroids) are really quite effective in a fight against SLE attacks and their symptoms.
