I knew I had anxiety problems, and was dropping weight fast. A neighbor gave me her xanax to help. I used hers for about 7-9 months.
I finally got health insurance, and wanted to go the "right" route, as I still was losing weight, etc..I have what I think are panic attacks but could already be withdrawel symptoms, as soon as I wake up, and probably 4-5 times daily. Once I take one though, of course Im fine.
My doctor gave me .25's to get through the month until my effexor kicks in.
Im on my second week of effexor.
I have however gone from 1mgs to .5 as I started getting them from someone else. But I havent even touched mine as they do nothing.
Im probably on anywhere from a total of 2.5 to 4mgs a day, and am running out so I cant even really do the taper method.

You CANNOT go off xanax cold turkey. You can have status elepticus. That is a seizure that cannot be stopped, and will kill you. Tapering off at 1/2 doses over 6 months worked for me.
