I may go down to about 1/2 mg a day for a few days then stop. I had my last klonopin about 10am today. That's ben about 12 hours ago and I'm o.k. i'm sure the stuff is still in my system but I don't feel the need for it and maybe shouldn't have taken any today to start with. Your post gives me strength.

Lucky you! I wish everyone had that kind of experience, but I am having benzo hell and know so many who have also had it. you are right, everyone is different and I think those that experience awful symptoms are in the minority. But it can be hell, it's very difficult an time is the only thing that seems to work. I think it was Winston Churchill who said -"The only way out is through."

Hello, yes it is a terrible medicine (to stop). I was on it for years and also taking more than the Drs. said. I developed a really severe habit sometimes taking 10 or more full strength pills per day. I was taking Klonopin to "get off" Xanax, which I had been taking for 10 years and also abusing. There is no way around the discomfort that one experiences from the withdrawal of Klonopin. However taking Benadryl or Ibuprophen helps a bit. My symptoms were neck pain cramps, body aches, low libido, restless leg syndrome, feelings of impending doom, aggression, anxiety and racing thoughts and difficulty putting sentences together, severe restlessness, headaches and diarrhea. It was the worst month-6 weeks of my life. I nearly threw in the towel because of the discomfort but am soooooo glad I stuck with it. Now I am a new person, completely sober for the first time in 40 years and its great. I know what you are feeling and it really sucks. My advice is to just try and see it through to the other side as it eventually just goes away. If you could work it so you are not around people while withdrawing is the best as People and their isim's are magnified 10 times while going through this. Best to not be around folks you want to continue a friendship with as I at least turned into a real aggressive, horrible, low tolerance human being. Ibuprohen, Benadryl and hot tea were the only things that seemed to help me. Stick with it. .

To the med student, klonopin is indeed a very dangerous drug. You were extremely lucky not to have severe withdrawal symptoms because most people do. All benzos are bad and dangerous and Ativan is almost as bad.

I HAVE BEEN TAKING KLONOPIN FOR THE PAST YEAR, 1MG 3X PER DAY...I HAVE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO STOP COLD TURKEY..MY INSURANCE RAN OUT AND IM IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AT THE MOMENT. I AM ON DAY 4 AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING IRRITABILITY, MUSCLE SPASMS, COLD SWEATS, SLEEPLESSNESS, AND MY EQUILIBRIUM IS OFF WHEN I WALK OR STAND SUDDENLY...I ALSO HAVE THE FLU SO IM IN HELL BUT ITS HARD TO DETERMINE IF THE FLU SYMPTOMS ARE PART OF THE WITHDRAWL OR NOT..IM SURE ITS A COMBINATION..PLUS I HAVE TO FLY BACK TO THE STATES WHICH WILL BE A FULL 24HR JOURNEY...I AM POSTING THIS FOR OTHERS TO READ AND HOPEFULLY NOT BE TOO SCARED OF THE WITHDRAWL. I WAS VERY SCARED BUT FACED WITH NO CHOICE I JUST WENT FOR IT AND TAKE IB PROFIN TO HELP, AS WELL AS TONS OF PURE LEMON JUICE WITH RAW COD LIVER OIL, I AM EATING TONS OF VEGGIE AND CHICKEN SOUP, STAYING DOWN AS MUCH AS I CAN AND STAYING DISTRACTED SO THE ANXIETY OF DYING DOESNT TAKE OVER MY MIND...WHAT IVE FOUND HAVING BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH POST TRAUMATIC STRESS AND SEVER ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THE MEDS HELPED TREMENDOUSLY AND I KNOW THAT MY BODY HAS BECOME DEPENDANT ON THEM...IS THAT OUR MINDS ARE SOMETIMES THE WORST OF WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING...COMING OFF COLD TURKEY AFTER A YEAR HURTS AND IS UNCOMFORTABLE BUT ITS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE SUFFERING I WAS EXPERIENCING PRIOR..IN THE END I BELIEVE IT WILL BE WELL WORTH IT GETTING OFF AND GOING THROUGH THE PAIN OF COLD TURKEY...EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS IT IS BUT LIKE THE MED STUDENT POINTED OUT EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND OUR BODIES WILL RESPOND DIFFERENTLY...FINGERS CROSSED IM GOING THROUGH THE WORST NOW AND WILL SUFFER NO REAL DAMAGE AS I KNOW THERE CAN BE SEIZURES..PRAY FOR ME..THANKS

I have taken KLONOPIN since I was 28. I am now 51.
I TOOK myself off of it 59 days ago.
I figure I have EATEN 2 pills a day (.50 MG each time) every day for the last 23 years...
That egquates to 730 PILLS a year minimum, multiplied times 23 years... (SO, 15,000-16,000 pills total over 28 years)
59 days ago I took myself off. I JUST wasn't having ANXIETY any more at the level I use to.
NO withdrwarl symptoms people... NONE.
I am telling the truth.
My name is Bret Martin and I swear to you this is true.
Every day I am in SHOCK since I QUIT, as my DOCTOR and POSTS like these tell me diffrently...
BUT I am telling the truth.

Yes Klonopin is hard to get off of but NOT impossible. Sure you will be uncomfortable but months and years not always true and I doubt the little time you were on it would cause that. Not to minimize your symptoms but it sounds like you did a lot of reading on this subject and that just adds to the agony. There is way too much negative information on the internet. If your sick the internet can be your worst enemy and feed you fears. Just know everyone reading this there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Look straight ahead and push forward one day at a time. If your goal is to get of off this medicine find a trusted doctor and or support group and go SLOWLY! This too shall pass! Speaking from experience.

Well, this is a discussion for people who are experiencing withdrawal symptoms and to be honest, not sure if I like your tone. Klonopin is not a safe medication to be on for longer than two weeks for psychiatric purposes, studies have proven this and the information, for the most part, has been withheld from patients. This drug, for all intents and purposes, has ruined my life and the lives of thousands of others and to this day, most doctors have made it a point to ignore their patients and made ludicrous claims, believing the lies they were fed by the pharm reps years ago.
Stick to your anatomy courses doc and leave the hard stuff to us, the patients....
