Hello. I'm 34 year old male and since my since I lost my wife, 5 years ago, I'm suffering from really serious depression. This began to interfere with my everyday activities and that’s why I started to use some antidepressants such as Celexa for example. Beside all the good effects of this drug I have also experienced several side effects.
Just recently I've heard about Lexapro-some new version of Celexa, which is created by splitting the Celexa molecule in half and discarding the side that wasn't acting as an antidepressant and was thought to be responsible for most of the side effects. When I heard about this I was thrilled and immediately started with it. But, after one month of using I began to feel halfway manic. In spite of feeling very tired and aching all over I couldn’t sleep and have urge to do something all the time.
Could it be from this drug?

Hi. I have just read your post and, since I know some facts about this new drug, I decided to help you a bit.
When this drug bumped on the market-it was kind of miracle. No one asked about possible side effects. But the truth is that it is determined later that this drug in did can cause mania. Mania is an abnormally elated mental state, typically characterized by feelings of euphoria, lack of inhibitions, racing thoughts, and diminished need for sleep, talkativeness, risk taking, and irritability.
My suggestion to you would be to read as much scientific information as you can get your hands on, including how these chemicals work in the brain, how that affects our minds and decide what is the better option for you. Talk with your doctor over this!
