I survived Effexor withdrawal years ago under MD supervision. I have never benefited from anti-depressants (except that Effexor eliminated my hot flashes), but I was having really tough issues, so a PA prescribed 10 mg. Lexapro, about a year ago.
I decided to get off them. The PA said that withdrawal from Lexapro wouldn't be as traumatic, I stopped cold turkey. 4 days into it, awful stuff (palpitations; insomnia, vile moods) hit like a brick in the middle of the night. So I took one Lexapro and was able to get to sleep.
I guess I need to taper, but my PCP who resists involvement and the PA has moved on.
Does it make any sense to just wait until the next trauma attack to take another pill as a way of tapering?
