I had a cortisone shot in October 06 and January 07. I experinced, Nuassa, depression, fatigue (24 hours a day), insomnia, loss of appetite, weight loss (16 lbs), Light headed/head rush spells daily. Doctors could find no cuase. I put two-and-two together and the only thing I had done over this time period was the cortisone shots (foot). I feel like I am slowly coming out of it. It has been two months since my lsat shot. I will NEVER take coritosne again.

I too had several injections (all in the shoulder, all the same day.) I was immediately dizzy and also in tears with the shock of the pain level! I was having trouble sleeping prior to the injections due to the discomfort in my shoulder, however AFTER the cortisone injection, I didn't sleep for more than 10 minutes at a time! What a nightmare it is!

I have to wonder if had I known this prior to the shots if I would have had them at all...I was also told after the injections that the relief will only last for approximately five days(when hopefully the body's own natural cortisone will take over)I doubt I have the courage for a repeat performance. :?

Has anyone experienced SEVERE insomnia after receiving a cortisone injection? This is the second time i've received one (last time was roughly 8 years ago) and I honestly dealt with total lack of sleep for 6 DAYS.. yes, I am not kidding you - I literally did not sleep AT ALL for 6 days and in addition to that I dealt with headaches and the feeling that my heart was going to literally rip itself right out of my chest-- suffice to say, I was a mess.

I received another one today in my left elbow due to a nasty sledding injury back in January of this year. I didn't realize it was the same type of shot (they called it something different) and I honestly didn't even thik to ask (my fault, I realize). I am already experiencing a headache (not too severe) but my heart is just pounding in my chest and guess what?? I can't sleep AT ALL. So, my question is - am I totally abnormal with respect to this (perfectly healthy 35 year old male) or has this happened to other people? I really can't handle going thru another episode like I had experienced before. They tried prescribing OTC and prescription medications to try and get me to relax/sleep but NOT a single one of them worked at all. I'd be so sleepy all the time but I could not get my body to take that final step to actually "get" to sleep. Thank God, after a week of no sleeping the side effects let up and I remember finally falling asleep and staying asleep for about 13 hours straight. HELP!

I had a cortisone shot yesterday in the morning. I have felt lightheaded and tired ever sense. Vertigo. Sort of depressed. I haven't noticed trouble sleeping, but I sure had a hard time getting out of bed this morning.

This stuff is definitely directly tied to the cortisone shot. Nothing else is different. Diet the same. No extra stress. No other drugs. So, I'm pretty convinced that the cortisone is having some adverse affects. I just hope that the soreness in my should goes away as it is supposed to and that the dizzy and tired feeling goes away within a few days. If it does what it is supposed to do, I will feel that it was worth it.

I had received a series of very strong cortisone injections several years ago. I DID have a reaction to those (after each one I was doubled over with stomach pain about five hours after the injection) and I would get emotional the first day or so. I assumed that I was experiencing these reactions because of the nature of this particular type of injection.

Two days ago, I received what I would call a 'mild' cortisone shot in my lower back. I was OK when I left but started feeling tired on the way home. An hour later I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I cried for two hours and went to bed. I also had to get up four or fve times during the night to urinate. The next day I felt 'shaky all over'. For the last two days I have been hoarse and have felt 'woozy' although I am eating and drinking normally. I did have stomach upset the first night, but that has pretty much gone away. After reading the other responses, at least I know it is not 'all in my head'!

I have bursitis on my left hip and knee. I received a cortisone shoe mone month ago and it help some for about three days. It is progressively getting worse and I received another shot yesterday. Today there is no pain except if I am on the feet too long. The only thing different I am experiencing is my face feels like it is on fire, like a sunburn and my eyes are burning. I know it is "hot flashes" because I wear a hormone patch.
Could this be a side effect from the shot?

I had my 3rd set of cortisone injections 9 days ago. The first cortisone injections were in the facets of the L5-S1 vertebrae, the second treatment was in the sacral-ilial (SI) joints and the third was again in the facets. Each set of injections was two weeks apart.

I got through the first two set of injections with no significant side effects beyond general soreness at the injection sites. This third round, however, has knocked me for a loop.

Since the last shots (9 days ago), I have had a bad headache, been nauseous, very tired, loss of appetite, had off & on low grade fever and still very sore in the injection site area. I've iced it, rested, done all the things the doctor recommends. This is a miserable existence and hope that all of this sick feeling will be worth it in terms of pain relief in my back. I feel miserable!!

Reading other posts, it seems like this is not uncommon!! Why don't they warn patients of these potential side-effects?!

I had an injection last monday and I too am having dizziness and a general feeling of unwell. Nothing was explained to me as to side effects and how the injection works. I have had unusual heart beats and at times it feels as though it will stop all together. My shoulder still aches from the injection and the area is still sore and unable to raise arm.

Years ago I had shots two or three times in my shoulder for rotator cuff problems. The shots were very effective and the side effects almost non existent. This was long before I went into menopause.

More recently (December) I had a shot in my knee for arthritis pain and one in my shoulder (last week) for an undiagnosed pain in the same shoulder. These were given by the same orthopedist as before. This time the shots were not particularly effective and I have had terrible hot flashes for a number of days after each one. I am menopausal and do get hot flashes but normally they are not so frequent or so severe. In addition I have come down with an awful cold. I did some research and YES these are definitely side effects from cortisone injections. So are anxiety and mood swings. I have been very "blue" for several days.

I do not know if menopause is the difference but do not plan to have anymore of these shots.

I too had an allergic reaction to cortisone injection. The first time I had it was in my right shoulder where I had an injury. The morning after the injection I woke up and I experienced rapid heartbeat, shaky, my lips, neck and eyes were swollen and my eyes were red, my lips were swollen, my neck was swollen and my face was red as a tomato and swollen as well. According to the doctor, this was not due to the cortisone but to the fillers they use in the injection, such as the anesthetic component. Yesterday I went for a second injection in my left shoulder and I experienced the same reaction. The good thing is that this time I know it is only temporary. I sure freaked the first time around...

Two days ago I had a cortisone shot in my knee and have had a horrendous headache, facial flushing, and insomnia since. One thing I might have done different from others is tell the doctor to not include epinephrine with the shot since I have a bad heart and it doesn't like that kind of stimulus. The pain is down in my knee, but the swelling isn't reduced. I'd rather have arthorscopy surgery and solve the problem next time.

i have bulging discs in my back and neck...i decided finally to get a shot in my neck....and i wish the doctor would have warned me. there were four injections in the back of my neck...then i felt dizzy and had a tingling sensation all over my body...then i felt sick to my stomach and amost felt like i was going to lose control of my bowels...then i tried to get up because the doctor wanted me to lie down....and realized i had lost control of all my motor skills. i couldn't walk because my legs were flopping around uncontrollably. i weight 120 and am 5'2" tall and the doctor needed help from his assistant to get me to another room to lay down. then he gave me gatorade. i also wanted to cry, i'm not sure why. eventually i did. That, by far, was the worst experience of my life. I'd rather live with the perpetual pain than have to ever go through that again. I'm annoyed that no one warned me about side effects.

Hi, from 3 and a half months I had hip bursitis. I was given anti-inflammatory for 15 days the pain was very strong but I became better. Later the pain started somewhere else in upper leg -lower back region. Especially when i walk, and now i returned to anti-inflammatory medicines. After one and a half month i had a cortisone injection in the hip but i didnt get better. What do u think is my problem non of the doctors is knowing. The pain keeps on growing (not in the hip) but the place stated above. I did an MRI but there's nothing in the MRI. Now I am taking profin. I am not finding any cure. What do you think is the problem and how can I cure myself. The best time I feel better is when i am sleeping.
