I had a cortisone shot in my shoulder last Thursday and on Friday and Saturday had a raging headache and very flushed face. I thought my face was going to burst into flames. I was fine on Sunday (yesterday), go figure except for the hot face. Today I woke up fine, and continued to decline throughout the morning. Then I was having trouble breathing, headache, feeling weak, nauseous until I finally called the Dr. and they got me right in. They did an EKG, chest x-ray, blood pressure (which was very high for me). By the time they got done, the symptoms were starting to subside. The physicians assistant went to talk to the "big guy" and he said he had seen this reaction many times and to tell me I would be fine in a couple of days. Oh, and the frequency of urination! I used to have edema in one ankle...it's gone. According to my scales, I lost 3 lbs. over the weekend. But I have to say, nothing hurts. Not my shoulder, or my hip or my foot (plantar fasciitis). It was pretty scary. Hoping to feel better tomorrow.

I received a cortisone shot in my left shoulder one week ago. I am experiencing just UNBELIEVABLE leg cramps. Is this a side effect of cortisone? Will this continue indefinitely? What can I do for that? I am up all night.

I received a cortisone shot into the tendon on my right wrist two weeks ago, for de Quervain syndrome (tendonitis). It is remarkable that I now have less pain associated with movement in my wrist and hand. However, my doctor told me there were "no side effects" to be expected. And, since I had the shot, I have been experiencing frequent "sweating spells" or "hot flashes". I am a middle-aged woman, so I suppose it could be coincidental and related to hormones. But, it came on immediately after getting the injection and hasn't stopped since. I get these sweating spells about 12 -20 times in a 24 hour period. I feel like my body is rejecting the cortisone or having a tough time expelling it or something. Has anyone else had this type of side effect?

so I had a series of three cortisone injection in my foot for plantarfasciatis. The first one was fine, the second and third one I had reactions to. Nothing terrible but my face turned BRIGHT RED and patchy the next day. My PCP thought I was having an allergic reaction to the numbing agent used with the cortisone. He said he has never seen anyone allergic to cortisone. I asked my friend about it who said she too hadt the red face after she had a cortisone injection- she was told by her MD it was called Steriod Flare up. Anyhow I'm going to an allergist to make sure I wasn't allergic to the marcane but thought I'd share my experience.

In response to Fakum: I too have had cortisone shots (for back pain). Although they are helping my back pain immensely, I get terrible leg cramps. My doctor prescribed the muscle relaxant skelaxin 800 mg. I take it a little before bedtime each night. It does help. I guess cramps must be a side effect?

I had my first cortisone injection in my right shoulder last week, very painful, I was so nauseaed and dizzy. I stayed in bed, called my DR's after hours number to find out if this was normal, hours later he called back and said it had NOTHING to do with the cortisone. The next morning I still was nauseaed and took my 4lb dog out for his walk, well needless to say, I passed out on the side of the road, sweating profusely when I came too, thank god for neighbors. They brought me home. Called the DR and he said to see him in his office, I went and I explained everything and he and his staff stated that they were treating me for my shoulder not the lump in the back of my neck which all of a sudden appeared and Cortisone doesn't cause nausea or fainting.......He is a quack. I will ge going to see another Dr and I will never get another cortisone injection.

Side Effects Of Cortisone Injections

I have been getting cortisone shots for several ailments. I had one today for plantar fasciitis, tendonitis and overuse syndrome. I've been fitness training for over a year and have taken off a lot of weight. I notice that after a cortisone shot, I'm fatigued and have to sleep, the injection site and body part hurts like hell and I urinate a lot.

Holy smokes! I cannot believe you've had a reaction similar to what I'm experiencing. I'm young, healthy, I've had cortisone injected before and they've helped me a great deal. I have suffered some sports injuries. I've had my knees injected and my back injected. No big deal. The cortisone helped lots. A week ago I had my foot injected - I had seriously injured the outside of my foot last fall and the injury flared up- dislocated the outside of my foot. I was fine for the injection, but I drove home, went outside to play with my dog and pow- ended up nearly passing out. I literally had to sit down on the cement with my head between my knees. At first I thought it was vaso-vagal and I didn't worry too much about it, but it keeps happening. I keep getting light-headed. I go from normal to nearly passing out in a nanosecond. And I got that weird burning in my chest! I've never had indigestion. Ever. I hope this wears off because it's very scary. Hate this feeling. I'm afraid to drive because I'm afraid I'll pass out and kill someone. Awful.

My dr. gave me an 80Mil/mm injection of Depo-Medrol for pluerisy last friday. I started experiencing the side effects within the hour. Started with nausea then loss of appetite/nausea- couldn't hold down food- for three days. Lost 10 pounds that week. Appetite got a little better after three days but still is not fully back yet. Then I experienced muscle pain and soreness in back, arms, sides, and tops of thighs. Waking up in the morning was the worst pain and at night but pretty severe muscle pain throughout the day as well. Then depression/irritability started to hit. I called my dr but they totally blew me off on these symptoms. I had then did my own research and learned that I was probably experiencing adrenal insufficiency from the high dosage. I researched and came up with a vitamin cocktail that so far has worked wonders! Evening primrose oil, vitamin B complex, B-12, Calcium/Magnesium/Vit D/Zinc blend, EPA/DHA, 99m of potasium, folic acid. I did not go crazy on the milligrams with these. Kept them somewhat within the daily limit because alot of them are also in my multi-vitamin which is a prenatal. Today my muscle soreness was lessened by 75%. My mood is so much better. I feel pretty good. Just started them last night so it worked pretty quickly. Hope it keeps working. Wanted to share this for anyone who experienced the same issues. I was really scared something very bad was happening to my health.

I had my first cortisone shot against my better judgment 3 weeks ago in my foot for a neuroma . Several days later my legs were burning. A week later I could hardly walk steps from fatigue. I played tennis for 2 minutes and bent over to pick up ball, suffered an extreme rupture in a ligament at the top of my leg. I will be out of tennis for I don't know how long. Two days later pulled muscles in my other leg. Had several other muscles pulls. The doctor denied any cause of the shot. I am 79 years old and now I don't think I will ever get my old strength back.
