I was wondering if anyone has had a severe headache in the front of their head after an injection? I got my first injection following arthroscopic knee surgery and I felt sick, sort of flu like and fought off a migraine head ache. My knee feels much better, no doubt but was not fun yesterday.

I have had numerous injections of cortisone over the last five years due to persistant bursitus of my right shoulder. I had every symptom you all have listed but please rest assured that they do go away and the shots will make your joints feel normal again. As for the guy who got his in the back and was numb and so forth... go back to the doctor for heaven's sake. Do you really need to ask?

I had a cortisone shot yesterday. I had the shot for an ear infection that won't drain. Could not sleep more than 5 minutes last night!

I feel jumpy.

My mom told me, after I told her I got the shot, that she once had a cortisone shot and had such bad heart palpitations - she had to take heart medicine for a little while!!!

I hope I sleep tonight. I don't know what's worse--insomnia or ear pain.

Also suffering from similar side effects mentioned on this thread.

Received some shots a few weeks ago for lower back pain, but pain came back and then received a shot directly to the facet joint on May 2nd. Had a slight nose bleed when I got home. Did not feel too bad the following days.

Then on May 8th had another slight nose bleed and just felt so lethargic. May 9th woke up with a splitting headache.

Still feeling quite tired (on May 13th), thirsty, dizzy, frequent urination, find it hard to concentrate, have acne. Also had heart palpitations which I associate more with the anxiety, but they seem to have gone now.

Although I am assuming the side effects will go away eventually, so if that is the only way of getting rid of the back pain it will have to do - and I will have to be patient. But not as anxious as I was now I know the probable cause.

I had similar problems last year (after similar injections) but thought it was due to stress caused by moving jobs/cities. So, went to many doctors (eye drops for blurred vision, herbal medication for vertigo and anxiety). But at the time did not associate the problems due to the injections.
Eventually the problems went away after a few weeks.

I have been reading people's comments on cortisone injections. I am having similar side effects. No sleep, fever, sore throat and my heart is racing. It has been and unpleasant experience. I was rather scared and i feel like i need a good sleep. I have no idea why i have had another injection, the side effects are horrible. I thought it would help my shoulder , but a few days off work would have helped too. I am never having one again, i can't stop crying. What a mess i have become. :-(

Wow - sorry to read about your experiences :-( I'm relieved I found this forum, though.

Had a cortisone injection for chondromalacia (dodgy knee) last week; I was fine immediately afterwards but the next day felt totally spaced out, nauseous, crying for no reason and confused. Went to bed as soon as I got home from work, then woke up at 2am and was violently sick and had a bit of a vertigo attack. Felt awful all day Friday, stiff leg etc. Even this morning I felt sick on getting out of the bath.

Still at least my knee doesn't hurt!

For chondromalacia - I had this back in the 1970's when I was 14. The doctor prescribed plain old aspirin, taken in higher-than-usual doses. It really did help, and actually is beneficial to the knee in the long run (according to the doctor). Consult your doctor first to make sure you don't have any conditions that would contraindicate taking aspirin (such as bleeding, ulcers, etc.)

I received a cortisone shot this June 3 for tendonitis in the foot - big mistake - I don't know what I was thinking. The nurse accidentally nicked a blood vessel (unlucky accident), resulting in an injection hematoma, which hurt worse than the original problem. Then, the hot flashes started a couple of days later, and they've continued for almost 3 weeks - about one every hour. Also, I've had the rapid heart beat, increased blood pressure and blood sugar, and generally feeling like crud. Women in my family generally don't go through menopause until they're well into their 50's, and I'm in my mid-40's. I'm going to be P.O.'d if this has thrown me into full-scale menopause already!

I received a cortosone injection for sciatic nerve pain last Friday. I have been very nauseated since. The worse thing is I am so tired and have to sleep every few hours. I have not been able to drive to work. I work 60 hours a week and always have a lot of energy. I am so weak almost the same as following a surgery the first day postop. It is very scary and I just don't know what to do. The doctor ran some lab tests yesterday so I am hoping something will show to get me back to normal. The nausea is terrible but the worse is the tiredness - I have to sleep so much. Oh yes, I still have the pain in the back area of the buttocks and leg. NEVER AGAIN!

A few months ago I received a cortisone injection in my shoulder. Seconds afterward I started vomiting uncontrollably. When I finally stopped vomiting, I went to the sink to wash my face, I looked in the mirror and had hives all over my face. Within a minute I was covered with hives all over my body. Then my throat started to close and I went into anaphalactic shock. The Dr. gave me an epi-pen injection and i was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The badthing is, the cortisone injection worked well, but I will NEVER be able to get another one.

:x Teen had first in Jan. second shots in April. Did have some side effects from cortisone shot in her cervical spine after cheerleading accident. Side effects were, severe insomnia, face was hot and red, thirsty, freguent urination, missed menstration for 4 months now (no she is not pregnant), loss of appetite and body is swelled up. Never again. When I called the doctor, he said he never heard of these things. If I would have read this after her first shot, I never would have let her get the second one. Has anyone tried the prolotherapy and are there any side effects?

I was given a cortisone injection this morning for a rotator cuff injury. This was about 3 hours ago. I've been online for the last half hour trying to find an "official" site that described the possible side effects of cortisone and there really are none. Why was I looking? Suddenly, without warning, I was practically passing out here at my desk from what feels like total exhaustion...seriously, sitting here looking at my computer screen and I was out...asleep until the coffee I was holding poured onto my jeans. My face feels a little puffy and my head has that pre-sinus infection achiness. My stomach's a little upset and I have a really bad taste in my mouth that I can't get rid of no matter what I do. I had cortisone injections about 12 years ago and my rheumatologist warned me that it might make me a little hyper and cause some insomnia for a few days...and it did get me a little buzzed but nothing I couldn't deal with at the time. They really need to do a little more research so that patients will know what they might be getting into after an injection. They can't predict how a person's body will react...we're all different. And if there's no official empirical data, listen to your patients and pass it along to others that have the same problems. 99 out of 100 may have no reaction whatsoever but the fact that I'm the 1 that does doesn't make it any less real.

Immediately after my injection I started to feel lightheaded and out of it. The next day I was so tired I couldn’t even move, and now four days later it isn’t letting up. I called the duty doctor who says it is the cortisone injection and nothing to do with my blood. He says it will fade off in a little while. It can take over a week for this side effect to go away, which leads me to this question: Why did the rheumatologist tell me there were no side effects? I asked about 3 times before the injection and she said no! That is just bull sh*t. What did she desperately want me to have it? Besides it being extremely painful, now it has knocked me down for almost 5 days!

Yesterday, 8-5-08, I was given a cortisone shot in my right shoulder. This is actually my third shot over the past year, but about 5 minutes after injection, I got extremely dizzy and confused. It was kinda scarey cause I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I had to sit there for about 45 minutes, and then pull over on the side to the road on the way home. The Dr. acted like I was crazy, but I couldn't even think straight. I also had a migrain for the rest of the night. I actually had to go to bed at 7:30. My head feels much better now, and dizziness is gone. Arm just feels funny. Not like before!
