i’m taking tri-linyah birth control i skipped my placebo pills the weekend of thanksgiving cuz i was going to a music festival didn’t wanna be on my period. about 3 days into when i was supposed to be on the last days of the period i had just skipped i was having really light pinkish spotting, breast tenderness and very faint cramping. started bleeding friday dec 1 and it wasn’t heavy didn’t have to wear a pad or anything cuz it wasn’t enough and now i’m still bleeding but it doesn’t fill the pad. not sure what it is if it’s a period or not i’m on my 3rd week of active pills and my bleeding remains there but not heavy.

Just wanted to contribute, I’m a nurse and have actually experienced this myself (it is NOT fun). I have taken birth control (Portia 0.15mg/0.03mg) for 3 years with no issues; it regulated my cycle, reducing it from 12 days to 5 days every month. However I decided to skip the placebo for 3 months for a couple vacations, and it was the WORST decision I’ve ever made. I am on week two of heavy bleeding and a huge amount of uterine lining shedding (those dark clots you see with your period.) if you think about it, the uterine lining has nowhere to go unless it’s being shed. Doctors I work with and I both agree that although birth control does stop your uterine lining from thickening like a normal period, it does still thicken at a much slower rate, hence the intense amount of clotting being discharged when you decide to have your placebo week period. Basically all 3 months worth of lining is being shed and I have no choice but to ride it out. My opinion is that it’s not worth it to bleed with these clots for 2-4 weeks just to not have a period every 3 months; I am gladly going back to having a 5 day cycle every 30 days and will never do this again. Please consult a medical provider or a nurses line if you ever are in doubt or have questions!

I've been on birth control for almost a year now, and sometimes if i really don't feel like getting my period or im visiting my boyfriend, I'll skip my period. There usually aren't any problems when i do this but today I started bleeding as if I was getting my period. I'm not supposed to get it for another week. Should I stop taking the pills and let my body have a period or should I just keep taking them even though I'm bleeding?
