I'm afraid that weight gain is one of the most common side effects of steroid medications, because steroids are in fact hormones that can affect many of your regular body functions, from blood pressure to your mood. And since they also have effect on water retention, besides the fact that thy contribute to your body storing fat (especially in the abdominal area), weight gain, to some extent is inevitable when you need to take this medication. But, this weight gain is reversible. And I believe that because of the original condition you already are on changed diet, it all depends now for how long will the steroid treatment be necessary.
