Hello,
I’ve been on sertraline for the two months now and my periods have always been absolutely regular and I never really experienced breakthrough bleeding before. But now, while I’m on sertraline, I had unusual spotting happen to me twice. It starts few days after my period is finished and lasts for 3-4 days and is really annoying.
Is this common thing to happen when you’re taking sertraline? If anyone here experienced something similar, how did you deal with it? Will it stop after some time on the medication?

Hi,
It's not a common side effect of SSRI anti-depressants, but some of them can have an effect on female hormonal balance and can cause various side effects ranging from missed periods to lactation. Most of these go away in a month or two as your body adjusts to the medication, but i definitely suggest you mention this to the doctor who prescribed you sertraline at your next appointment.
Also, it's not impossible that the condition for which you were prescribed sertraline has led to additional stress which can then contribute to hormonal disbalance responsible for the bleeding.
