I have heard that as men grow older, they produce less testosterone and more estrogen. Will taking an estrogen blocker help me better utilize the testosterone I have and give me more strength and vitality? A friend of mine, also in his early 60's, is getting testosterone injections from his doctor and swears by them. I'm not sure I want to go that route. Thanks..je

Hi there,
Estrogen blockers for men are mostly used for breast cancer and to control the growth of cancerous tumors. I am not sure about the vitality and more energy part, I only know that it can be helpful if you have breast cancer. Now about the side effects, there are several things that you might experience if you take estrogen blockers. For instance you might feel chest pain and bruising. Blurred vision with dizziness and fatigue are also among side effects of estrogen blockers. Also your head will hurt and you might have hot flashes and night sweats. These are all short term side effects. Now joint weakness is a side effects that can be affected on the long run.

I am on estrogen blockers because I am a 4 year user of testosterone replacement and it made my testicles atrophe.I was put on testosterone because my body quit producing testosterone and I had a 120 level....which is 80 points lower than what a woman carries naturally! I have noticed since taking the estrogen blocker that I have had some dizziness, lack of energy and libido and a bit of depression. I know these are temporary side effects but if it doesnt lighten up soon I'm going to have to get with my doctor. My testicles are starting to fatten up again in the meantime.
