Well, a low chance of being pregnant? Did you use a condom? By the sounds you had some contraceptive but the more you have the better off you'll be.
In other cases, however, bleeding happens often for couples and their first time. For girls, you have a thin piece of skin covering the vagina, called the hymen. When it stretches, it 'breaks; and this is the result of the bleeding. Not everyone bleeds though, I didn't.
Bleeding does not mean your pregnant however, EC is available if you're still concerned.
