Where the Wild Things Are was one of my favorite picture books when I was a child. I loved the story of Max, a boy who is sent to bed without his supper (he was being wild), and imagines himself into a fantasy world where he meets real Wild Things with claws and scary Yellow eyes. Max is able to tame these Wild Things by commanding them to be still and so they think that Max is the Wildest Wild Thing of them all. While I loved this story, the pictures were also somewhat scary and areis capable of frightening a child. If there really were monsters under my bed when I was a kid, I always imagined that they looked liked the Wild Things. It is hard to believe that this book has been around for forty years, but when I read it again when I was 25 I think I enjoyed it just as much as when I was 6. This is a great story, though parents should consider what sort of things frighten their children.
