You should research it yourself. Never get advice from strangers on the internet.

I think prequel should take a large dose of rat poison. Don't worry. Rat poison is perfectly safe to take with Tylenol or Ibuprofen. After all, POISON stands for Pure Organic Imitation Steroids with 0 Negatives. Trust me. I'm a doctor;)

Pease, what would you suggest for meds. The pain is not a problem during the day but pain keeps waking me up during the night Not getting much sleep. I tried Aleve for a week without success. I then tried acetaminophen(650 mg) & that didn't help either. I'd much appreciate any help on this problem. Thanks.

the best pain relief: smoke some mary jane. best stuff, few side effects, aside from a little high, which is quite fun!

Just a small note of correction here.  Tylenol is toxic for liver in high doses.  Absolutely don't take higher than the recommended dosage on the bottle.  Ibuprofen is toxic to the kidneys.  It is safe up to 800 mg (prescription dose).

I am concerned with both a) people who request serious medical information in a forum and b) people who consider themselves qualified to give such advice.  As "Guest" wisely recommends above 1) contact your pharmacist and ask and 2) go to the Tylenol.com website and get the data straight from the horse's mouth.   Rather than relying on opinions and conjectures... do research.

The second thing is the reply stating "Tylenol destroys livers".  What's next, "Burn the witch?"

Most medicines have some side-effect.  It is important to read the labels for cautions and never exceed the dosage recommended without a physician's order.  Taken sensibly and appropriately, Tylenol (to my knowledge) offers no more danger than aspirin, Ibuprofen or any other medication.  It can be considered as "safe" for livers taken in recommended dosages.  When folks go beyond that, they're liable to experience difficulties.

It's best to avoid extremism and over-reaction.  You eat too much food... you get sick.  That doesn't mean food makes you sick.  ; )

I did google to find out if I could take Ibuprofen on top of the Excedrin Migraine I had already taken, and did learn that if they both have NSAIDs, I should not.  If I had taken Tylenol, I would have taken the Ibuprofen.  Since Excedrin Migraine has NSAIDs, I won't take the ibuprofen for several hours.  I wish I had read up before I took the Excedrin, since I believe the combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen are the best for pain relief and inflammation reduction.  When I started reading this thread, I was reminded that at a hospital earlier this year, a doctor gave my 4-year old nephew BOTH medications at the same time for his severe ear ache.  I asked "is that safe?!" in some alarm and was assured that it was safe.  Obviously, in appropriate dosage, which is key.  Water is also key.

Damage to liver and kidneys happens when people do not drink enough water when taking medications.  Even "safe" dosages  can be dangerous or damaging if not accompanied by enough water.  Every label says "drink with at least 8 ounces of water" ... right?  So DO it.

Every medicine anyone mentions is potentially harmful.  I have a torn rotator cuff, and I am in constant pain which is 50 times worse when I get in bed.  I get NO SLEEP at all these days.  Hydrocodone, Flexeril, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen--none of these work very well.  When I take Hydrocodone and Flexeril, which is supposed to make one drowsy, before going to bed, I like awake and in pain for HOURS.  Does anyone have any suggestions I could ask my dr. about?

Tylenol and motrin (ibuprofen) are frequently given together to treat high fever or fever that is hard to control with just tylenol alone. Every 4 hours you give tylenol and every 6 hours motrin. Yes at times using the above method they'll be given at the same time. However if your child is having a fever of 100.1 or higher you need to take him/her to be checked out by a dr.

Although these two drugs have different mechanisms of actions you should not give NSAIDS (such as aspirin and possibly ibuprofen) unless you consult with a pediatrician, to avoid Reye's syndrome and death in children.

Of course Johnson and Johnson who makes Tylenol

doesn't want you to take NSAIDs. They want you to take

more Tylenol and wreck your liver so that you have to

have medical care that involves even more products

made by Johnson and Johnson. Wise up.

Ok for one, there's risks with every medication you take, sure tylenol, if used incorrectly can cause kidney and liver damage BUT ibuprofen can cause rebound headaches/pain, and stomach and intestinal bleeding and ulcers, I had a friend who's dad almost died from a bleeding ulcer caused by ibuprofen use, it is VERY hard on your stomach, as for opiates, sure they breed dependance, but as far as effects they have on the body go they don't cause kidney, liver, or stomach issues the way tylenol and advil go.

You all are HILARIOUS!!

I have taken 1200-1800 MG of Motrin everyday for a week straight and then only time that anything happened was I had a bit of gas and felt sick because I didn't eat anything before taking my dose. I had severe inflammation in the lower back and guess what? The doctor recommended I keep taking the Motrin. He gave me a muscle relaxer and it didn't help anything except make my back even weaker. I am currently suffering from a torn ligament in my lower back, nothing serious except for the pain. I take 3 Motrin for the swelling and 2 Tylenol Extra Strength for the pain. Hot and Cold treatments on the localized pain and it does wonders. I take those doses twice a day and no more than 3 times a day IF needed. It is quite rare. I have never used a "REAL" pain reliever but people have had their lives ruined by it too. My point is, control the pain and find out what is CAUSING the pain, then do the natural thing and correct said problem so that medication is no longer necessary. Take care of your back too! Always work smarter and not harder. You can never fully recover from a back injury and once it has happened you will always have problems for the rest of your life. Good luck and take care.
