I actually was not aware that PMS was not as common in other parts of the world as they are here, so I think that it's really enlightening to know something like that. I was not aware that it was sort of a lifestyle thing so this is pretty enlightening. Do you find that people who find out about this are sort of resistant to hearing this sort of thing or that they're pretty open to it? I imagine that a lot of people might think it's not true. Thanks!

I am an Australian female of Asian decent. I have a very healthy diet and I am a dancer that cross-trains for 90 minutes 4-5 days a week.
I am currently 28 and have always experienced terrible PMS. Among my symptoms; breast tenderness that prevents me from lying on my stomach for days before my period, cramps so bad I can't move and nausea that stops me from eating. I have also had recurrent thrush for the last 10 years and have been told by numerous specialists that it is just a fact of life for some women! To top it off I am also extremely irritable which makes me difficult to live with.
I was recently diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and prescribed Sertraline to help manage this debilitating illness. I have been on this medication for two months now and never felt better. While I still experience mild cramps during my menstrual cycle, I am no longer grumpy and have not experienced any breast tenderness or thrush.
While I am open to the idea that diet may play a role in some cases of PMS I think it is unfair to dismiss this disorder as something that can mostly be treated with a change of lifestyle.
