Thank you for sharing your story. The same thing just happened to me, and I too am in my 50's, post menopausal, and had a recent steroid injection in my SI joint. This side effect was totally surprising, and a bit worrisome ... do I need to go back on birth control??? Yikes! I will be talking with my dr.

I had steroid injection 13 days ago and 10 days after was shsocked to find blood in my pants, I am 73 years and had last period 15 years ago. I had no idea this injection could cause vaginal bleeding as no reference is made to this in the side effects list, why I don't know as there is enough evidence on this site alone. I go to doctors in a day's time and if I had not stumbled upon this site I would have been worried sick, but now feel easier in my mind. Will tell the Dr about this site.

I had the same thing, I got a cortisone shot in my knee, I have been in menopause for over 10 years, one week after the shot I started bleeding. Lightly for 5 days then it stopped, I was wondering if this could make someone in menapause fertal ?

I was a week done with my cycle when I received a shot in my shoulder. I started bleeding again a week after! I'm glad I found this site.

I too had steroid injection in my thigh for hip pain, 15 years post menopause. Going for ultrasound and possibly biopsy next week. Feel worried but comforted to know it is possible side effect of injection. Hope you are ok now.

Same thing here. I had one and then within a few weeks began bleeding and bled solid for 4 mos. in the meantime tried taking hormones to stop the bleeding. Finally got it under wraps. Awful!

I had a cortisone shot in my hand for arthritis and began cramps and bleeding five days later....The bleeding became very heavy with clots and I was feeling tired and depleted...It lasted a week then gradually went away. It then came back about ten days later and happened all over again....Lasted about a week again and left me very tired and weak. I am post-menopausal and on bio identical hormone therapy. The pain in my hand stopped almost immediately but what I went through with the bleeding was as bad as the pain! I found this page and at least knew the cause of my bleeding. It has been about two months since the last bleeding stopped so I think this awful side effect is over. I had also developed lower back pain so had to have an MRI. When I went in for the results I explained to the doctor that I would NEVER have another cortisone shot and he abruptly cut me off saying there was NO way that the shot I had for my hand had caused the bleeding. I am so frustrated at the medical system ....They owe it to us to warn of this terrible side effect! I wanted to add my experience to this posting in the hopes of helping other women. I will not go back to the doctor I saw for my back pain and have decided to educate myself on natural treatments and stay away from orthodox medicine.

I am replying to my own message - but thought others might be interested. I wrote about the fact I am 73 and had sgteroid injection and started bleeding for 2 weeks! Stopped only when given tablets by doctor. Anyway I had an internal scan where a probe is inserted into vagina (not pleasant) and have been told I have thickening of lining of the womb. I mentioned the steroid injection but all the lady who did it said well it maybe a blessing in disguise that we have found it! Go to see gyny this week !

You won't need those tests because the bleeding is caused by the cortisone injections. Don't let them waist your time and money!! You should have been told in the first place!!

I have written on this subject earlier, I am the lady of 73 who had steroid injection followed by vaginal bleeding 10 days later, which freaked me out and was so glad to find this site. Anyway I have since had 4 internals - yes four - the last was a hysterscopy which is very invasive and 2 polyps were found and removed, but they would not have caused that amount of bleeding. Two biopsies have been taken and results should be with me within 2 weeks. The Consultant when I told her declined to comment on the fact I blamed the steroid injection and said I should treat it as a blessing in disguise that I was being treated - don't know what to think really?

I had the same exact thing happen after a steroid injection. Uterine biopsy negative except for a polyp. No further treatment. No reccurrence. I am 59 and a nurse. I cited your study and they all but laughed at me. I am convinced it was absolutely the steroid injection.

I'm glad I found this. I was blaming hot yoga totally forgetting I had a shot in my foot a few days prior to the bleeding starting. I'm going on day 8 of bleeding. First it was brown blood for a few days and now it is like a period but not as heavy. Sad thing is my foot is back to being sore so the shot didn't even work.

I had my 3rd cortisone shot a week ago today. After my first one in January 2015 I had 2 1/2 weeks of off-cycle uterine bleeding. I've never experienced anything like that before in my life (I'm 33 yrs. old) and so I went to my OB/GYN for an exam and to inquire if it had anything to do with the cortisone injection. She had me go for an ultrasound, which came back negative, and claimed she didn't know if it had anything to do with the cortisone or not since there have been no 'conclusive' studies. She advised I go for a uterine biopsy, which I have yet to do.....fast forward to April 2015 & I had another cortisone injection with no abnormal bleeding but after my injection last week, here I am a week out from already having my normal cycle and I'm back to bleeding again. 2/3 cortisone injections have caused bleeding and I find it hard to believe that's just coincidental so I'm glad to see numerous other women have had the same experience.
