Finally stopped after appx 3 months, doctors were no help at all, just wanted to give me tests and charge me money, until I did my own research and figured it out myself! I recently went to a holistic healer who said they see it often from steroid shots.

I had a steroid injection into both of my knees on tuesday and by the Saturday i had started bleeding. Still am 2 days later. I went to my GP today who says the steroid they inject is low dose so shouldn't do this but i think she is wrong.

I found this information which would back up what we have all gone through

They told me same thing then I showed them this post and they reminded me I signed a waiver before the injection!

Thank God for this thread! I'm 59 and had my first cortisone shot in my shoulder on the 1st of Feb and was supposed to have one in my hip the next day. Well, I was so jittery, sweating, almost hyperventilating that I rescheduled the appt for a week later and of course I had those same symptoms and now 2 to 3 weeks later and I am now bleeding, haven't had a period for 8 years!...hope it doesn't last long...thank you for sharing!

Oh it happened to me I know better now. I bleed for a month solid. I bleed hard and my blood count went down to a 8 after two steroid injections in each foot. Never again I will deal with the pain.

Early November I had 2 cortisone injections in my sacroilliac joints (which did not relieve the pain). Approximately two weeks later, I started experiencing vaginal bleeding (I have not had a period in nearly two years). This was accompanied by usual light cramping and irritability. The flow was light and brownish in color, but it lasted a full week. I visited my gynecologist, he did and internal exam and ordered an ultrasound w/transvaginal ultrasound. I had 3 more weeks of off and on spotting. The results from the ultrasounds warranted a uterine biopsy due to the thickness of 7mm. I put this off until today. I opted to have my yearly PAP test (which was fine), in January. I had my biopsy today. It wasn't pleasant, but I survived. The doctor stated that my endometrium was not even overly thick. His words were, "there's not much there." What he is wondering is if the cortisone injections, since they caused post-menopausal bleeding, that maybe they caused the thickening. It has been 3 months since the injections, so maybe this could be. I wanted to share my experiences. I don't know the results, yet, but this is making too much sense.

I don't understand Sam; is it thick or not? First the doc says it's not overly thick and not much there, then you say the injection may have caused the thickening...thought it wasn't thick. Please clarify! Thank you for sharing!

I have not had a period in over 8 years. I had a very bad cold and received a cortisone shot. 5 days later I started a moderate period. My Pap smear is perfect. What is going on? This happened twice to me in the last year. The doctor told me maybe I still had blood in my uterus??? What the heck?

Nope, I too haven't had a period in 8 years and bled for almost a month on and off after receiving cortisone shots...I've finally stopped and the pain from the bursitis has not returned so here's hoping because I don't think I'd go through this again...I not only bled, I had headaches and backaches and felt like c**p, was tired and crabby just like when I was a youngun!

I had a shot Feb 20th & was having my period when I got the injection. It is now April 4 & I am still having issues. I had tests to make sure everything is okay. I took Provera for 2 weeks & the bleeding continued. I have now begun birth control, but am told it could take 3 months before it stops...IF it does! It is beyond "getting old."

Absolutely! I'm 59 and had one shot in my shoulder and a week later one in my hip/butt area and started bleeding two weeks after the last one. I bled for like 3 weeks and am finally getting back to normal...I was a mess, back aches, headaches, crabby, etc., etc., just like when I was a young woman! It was horrible and now, just two months after the shots, the pain is returning! What was most discouraging was the fact that the doctors and pharmacist wouldn't acknowledge this possibility but wanted me to go the gyn for an ultrasound and any other expensive tests to make sure I didn't have cervical cancer. I was pissed because I KNOW my own body and I knew the cortisone, which is a hormone, screwed up the balance I had achieved with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy for the last 6 years! I think I'm going to resort to acupuncture as I've heard that can be very good. Scroll back to see my original post if you are interested. Good luck!

I am so upset my surgeon advised me to do epidural steroid shots for pain management vs pain meds I was thrilled an option to walk or sit without pain. Got the epidural my hip pain radiating my stenosis and herniated discs decreased by 70 plus percent. It was worth the pain of the epidural. Fast forward I've been bleeding since....Not just having my period...Cramps ...PMS...crying for no reason. I finally being regular my whole life started researching. The more I researched the medical studies and journals the more pissed off I got. It's so common. Yet many women on blogs state their doctor had no idea it was a side effect. What should I do never have sex again and be a hormonal basket case or be in pain? I mean seriously what do I do I can't sit stand walk without it and not be in severe pain. Most disconcerting was the research also denoted that it put all hormones out of whack....Well that's dangerous. I found nothing on a treatment for the chronic period symptoms and bleeding with the oldest article of medical research 2004. Really no one is concerned enough to address thi

I too am 59 and had 2 shots in my hip. Bleeding 2 days later, mostly just heavy spotting for one week. Had a uterine biopsy which came back having cellular changes. had an ultrasound that says that my uterine wall is 7 mm. Now my Gyn wants to do a D&C. I don't know if I want to subject myself to further testing when I believe that it is just the production of hormones from the injection. I had awful head pressure when I did the physical therapy. Had to stop it. My hip is worse now than when I started over a month ago.

The doctor is going to tell me what that means next week, although, they didn't say cancer. I had an ultrasound that says that my uterine wall is 7 mm.
