I know! My doctor and pharmacist said I should go to the doctor and I said well they couldn't very well do an exam cuz I was bleeding so bad to which they replied the dr. would do an ultrasound. I insisted it was because of the cortisone because I know my body well enough plus I've been on bio-identical hormone therapy for years with never any spotting or bleeding. Sure enough, I'm back in balance and the cortisone is wearing off and the pain returning. I'm back on Celebrex for my bursitis pain and swelling. Good luck to you!

I am in my 60s. Every time I get a cortisone shot for tennis elbow, I have uterine bleeding. Initially, Dr was very concerned. I had to see a a GYN, have a lot of tests and a biopsy but it was unnecessary concern.

Here is my story. I am 44 years old. I had a Kenalog shot on 1/24/2017 to try and clear up the acne rosacea on my face (the shot did nothing). Regular cycle beginning on 1/28/2017. Then, first week of March, five days late, started bleeding on 3/3/2017. Bled until 4/4/2017. Started bleeding again on 4/13/2017. Bleed until 5/4/2017. Started again today, 5/9/2017. It is almost like my period is backwards. On for long time and then off for 4 - 7 days. I went to the doctor last week for blood work. Everything is fine. My next guess is an ultrasound. I assume it is the steroid, but I feel like I should have things checked out just in case. I have no idea how long this is going to last or what exactly will cause it to stop and get my hormones back to normal. I don't know if I should ask for some type of hormone therapy. I'm terrified to start chemically messing with my hormones again although at this point, I'm not sure it could make things worse. How does one "reset" ones hormones?

I am grateful I found you site. Sad to see so many having difficulty; but it has given me some peace of mind. I had a cortizone shot with Lidocaine this past Monday. Immediately my blood preasure was up to 165; my sugars 300. After 8 hrs my blood preasure came down; I monitored my surgar and injected myself with insulin. Tuesday my sugars were back to normal 120. Friday I started with diarrehia and Saturday with a light vaginal bleeding and cramping. I am 63 years old and I cannot believe a cortizone shot would cause all this. My arm is feeling 99% better. I just wish the diarrehia and cramping would calm down.

I have found that everyone in the medical community immediately freak and want to do all kinds of testing-not sure if it's to cover their butts or as a money maker. If you read through this thread you'll find several women that went ahead and had an ultrasound and then other tests that turned out normal. I'm 59 yrs young and I know my body and I know the cortisone injections messed me up my hormone balance big time as I've been doing bio-identical hormone replacement for 8 years and have never had any bleeding and I felt great....until the injections...now, 3 months later I'm back to normal and have been refusing the tests my lady doctor ordered as I know my own body. Good luck!

Hello everyone. My last real period was on March 28, 2017. I got a nerve block done on my lumbar area on April 14. I was expecting my period on April 23 being that I am a regular and always on time but it never showed. I started spotting around April 20th all the way up til now ???? But on May 16th I bled a bright red which lasted until the 19th and disappeared and wasn't even heavy or with blood clots like normally?? And I am still spotting and today is May 23?

Yup, that's what these injections can do to mess with women's cycles. We just have to decide if they are worth it vs the pain...I am going to try acupuncture because I do not believe my suffering for over a month was worth it as the cortisone continues to wear off...

I had an SI joint injection in 2015 and I experienced consistent vaginal bleeding for eight weeks after the injection. It did eventually end. I also experienced a cyst in my breast about a month after I took the SI joint injection as well as melasma on my face which I am still treating as a result of this injection. I took the injection to treat severe back pain after a car accident that occured in 2012. Due to my intense pain I still went on to take a transforaminal epidural steroid injection as well as a general one in my lower back. But, it was after the SI joint injection that my symptoms occured. I believe that the cortisone used at the hospital I had the injection administered was of a poor quality and unpredictable. It relieved some of my pain for about a month, but not worth the melasma which has cost me a lot of money, distress and time in addition to my back pain and immobility from my injury. I am hopeful stem cell research will lead to better ways to treat disabling sciatic back pain, nerve injuries, arthritis, and paralysis.

I had two epidural cortisone injections in my spine and after both, I had NON-STOP periods, lasting weeks upon weeks. I had to have a D&C to stop them both times.
I had a cortisone injection in my knee 2 months ago and my periods have been CRAZY! 20 days between, then 24 days between with a period lasting 2 weeks, now I'm going on 34 days since the last one. It's enough to drive you crazy and anxiety for us that don't want to have more children, especially at 44...wondering if you're pregnant or if it's the cortisone injection causing problems.
My advice is to call your OB/GYN and make an appointment as soon as possible!!! Make sure you tell them that you had a cortisone injection. For whatever reason, there's not a lot of info out there on this and Dr don't advise anyone in advance.
Good Luck!

So glad I saw these posts! Just started spotting and slight bleeding after my 2nd cortisone shot this year. Both shots for pain and arthritis in my knee. Very little, if any, if any side effects the first time. It was very successful in helping manage the knee pain for about 5 months. This last shot seems to be creating more side effects, with the bleeding evidently one of them! Was all ready to panic and schedule another check-up with GYN, but glad I spent some time researching female side effects! Although my knee is feeling fine...but surgery is the next step, and hopefully it will have fewer side effects!!!

I had my spinal injection last Wednesday. 3 days later started bleeding. I have not had a period in 16 months, until now :( but as most of you ladies I was scared to death! I'm going to wait it out. Let's hope this bleeding doesn't last too long!
