Hi

I also had a cortisone injection in my knee on 13th (my first)  Since then I have had difficulty sleeping. I manage a couple of hours and then am wide awake.  Tonight I didn't even get my 2 hours!  Have also had terrible night sweats which in fairness I was having before but not to the extent I have had since the injection.  Now I'm wondering if staying on Tramadol would be better.  Any ideas?

I don't have any advice, but I had a similar experience after a recent hip x-ray cortisone injection. The sleeplessness (middle of the night insomnia) lasted for about 1 1/2 weeks.  No night sweats, but my whole head was hot after the injection.  Seems to have subsided now.  I was told the cortisone goes right into the joint and there would be little to no side effects from the cortisone because it wasn't in the blood stream. But I couldn't pin the insomnia on anything else. Not sure if I will repeat the cortisone injection in the future. Hope things get better for you.

Anita, I too had an injection in my need yesterday for oesteoarthritis. I started out with a slight headache; which did go away. I was up just about all nite; had maybe 3 hrs. sleep. How long do you think the sleep insomnia will last? Hard to deal with. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me after a knee cortisone shot. No sleep the first night at all and not tired the next day.  THE second night I got 5 hours sleep. After that I returned to my normal 8 hour slumber. I'm 88 yrs old.

I have taken prednisone in the past for allergic reactions/ hives. Today at 2 pm I got two shots of cortisone. One in each wrist (ganglion cyst on left wrist and a lot of pain in the right wrist). As I was laying in bed trying to force myself to sleep, I remembered that the prednisone pills made me restless and it was difficult to fall asleep. Wondering if a steroid shot had the same effect, I immediately went to to Google and found this site. It's currently 2:20 am and I am wide awake. Therefore, from my experience, insomnia is a side effect of any steroid, whether it be in a pill or injection. Good to know I'm not going crazy, as I too usually fall asleep within 5-10 minutes of going to bed.

I'm 66 and just got a cortisone shot in the shoulder yesterday afternoon. No problem with pain at the injection site, but having difficulty falling asleep even after taking ambien. Same problem again today. It's 4:40 am and still no sleep. This has happend in the past when I received cortisone injections. The inability to sleep problem ususally disappears after a couple of days

First cortizone shot in knee and can"t go to sleep. Absolutely wide awake. Googling to see if this is common. Appears to be.

84 years old.  Cortizone shots in both knees in morning.  Runny nose, sweats, and sleeplessness.  Got about 3 hours sleep last night.  The shots have helped considerably but the "no side effects" notion is incorrect.  Time for doctors to acknowlege these problems

Had four cortisone injections yesterday - two in each shoulder. Now know why I can't sleep. Certainly not buzzing though. Very very tired.
