I would like to hear something about Gleevec. It is a medication prescribed to my father because of his rare form of stomach cancer. I have heard a lot about the medications given for treating cancer and how they can damage everything else in the process. Can you tell me how to deal with resistance to Gleevec?

I think that you should worry a bit less, at least until the therapy really starts. The thing about Gleevec is that it is a bit different than most of the other cancer meds. It has been FDA approved in 2001 and it approaches the problem from a different angle. It is targeting only the molecules of the cancer cells, more specific abnormal proteins that are essential for the survival of the malign tumor. So, it should also produce much less side effects than any other similar drug.
