I have been taking 10mg of prozac for a year. My Dr. says I can stop without weaning off and I should be fine. He also stated that prozac stays in the body for a long time after you stop taking it. Has anyone's Dr. ever told them this?

Your doctor is right. Prozac does have a longer half life than other sari's and there is a much lower incidence of withdrawal symptoms. You are also taking a very low dose so you should be fine. However, if I were you I would still taper down to 5 for a few days to a week just to be safe. I mean why not?

What's the point of stopping cold turkey? It's more likely to cause you harm, taper off like any other drug.
