Hi, dear.

It's common for girls to experience vaginal itching and discomfort at various times, even before their first period. Vaginal itching can have various causes, including yeast infections, irritation from soaps or hygiene products, or even tight or non-breathable clothing.

If you're experiencing persistent vaginal itching and discomfort, it would be best to talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent or guardian, and let them know about your symptoms. They can help you schedule an appointment with a healthcare professional, such as a pediatrician or gynecologist, who can provide a proper evaluation and guidance.

In the meantime, there are a few things you can try to alleviate the itching and discomfort:

  1. Avoid scratching: Although it may be tempting to itch, scratching can further irritate the skin and worsen the symptoms.

  2. Keep the area clean: Gently clean the external area of your vagina with mild, unscented soap and warm water. Avoid using harsh soaps or douches as they can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina.

  3. Wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing: Opt for cotton underwear and avoid tight-fitting pants or synthetic fabrics that can trap moisture and heat.

  4. Avoid irritants: Stay away from scented hygiene products, such as sprays or powders, as they can irritate the delicate skin in the vaginal area.
