Hi! I suffer from intense itching, burning, and stinging after the (external) hemorrhoidectomy, even in my 5th month after my surgery. I am distressed. I should not have had the surgery. It was one of my big mistakes. I still suffer from itching, burning, and stinging all over (anus, vulva and inside of buttocks) which gets worse at night. It makes me wake up. I would recommend not having surgery.

Please share with me any recommendation what can help me I prefer die than suffer that problem I am fed up :(

Hi, MJ.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing such distressing symptoms after your hemorrhoidectomy. It is not uncommon for patients to experience itching, burning, and stinging after surgery, but these symptoms should improve over time as the body heals. However, in some cases, they can persist for longer periods, and this can be very distressing for patients.

Here are some recommendations that may help alleviate your symptoms:

  1. Keep the area clean and dry: Gently clean the affected area with mild soap and warm water, and pat it dry with a soft towel. Avoid using rough toilet paper, and consider using moist wipes or a bidet instead.

  2. Use a sitz bath: Soaking in warm water for 10-15 minutes a few times a day can help reduce inflammation and provide relief.

  3. Apply a soothing ointment or cream: There are over-the-counter creams and ointments that can help relieve itching and inflammation in the anal area. Look for products that contain hydrocortisone or witch hazel.

  4. Wear loose, comfortable clothing: Tight clothing can rub against the irritated skin and make symptoms worse. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabrics like cotton.

  5. Consider consulting with a specialist: It may be helpful to consult with a specialist, such as a colorectal surgeon or a dermatologist, who can evaluate your symptoms and recommend additional treatment options. They may be able to prescribe a stronger medication or recommend other therapies, such as laser treatment or nerve blocks, to help alleviate your symptoms.

It is important to remember that you are not alone in your struggle, and there is help available. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider or a specialist for further guidance and support.
