Hello! Can anybody tell me more about Nortriptilyne’s effect on children? My son is supposed to start taking it and I am worried that this could be too much of a drug for him. Thank you so much!

You have to be very careful with this drug and watch your son’s behavior very closely, especially at the beginning of treatment and any time his dose is increased or decreased. Children younger than 18 years of age should not normally take nortriptyline. Children who take nortriptyline are more likely to think about harming or killing themselves or to plan or try to do so than children who do not take antidepressants.
In case he experiences any of these symptoms: new or worsening depression; thinking about harming or killing himself or planning or trying to do so; extreme worry; agitation; panic attacks; difficulty falling or staying asleep; irritability; aggressive behavior; acting without thinking; severe restlessness; frenzied abnormal excitement, or any other sudden or unusual changes in behavior, you should call his doctor. Be sure that your child regularly has his check ups and conversations with his doctor.
