I am taking Seasonale, a birth control pill that stops my period for two months, and I am supposed to have one on the third month. It has been one and a half months, and I've had my period for about a week. it started out light and brown, so I thought it was just spotting, due to accidentally doubling up on pills one day. But for the past few days I have been doubled over in cramping pain and my period has been very heavy. Today a blood clot a little larger than a grape was passed, and all the pain stopped. I also started taking iron supplement pills a few days ago, which cause nausea, which may be another cause for the stomach. I'm sexually active, and use condoms 75% of the time, always using a condom before ejaculation. I don't know if this is all related, but i have no idea how to react, and i don't understand how the blood clot could have caused me so much pain. Any ideas ?

Hi:
My experience is that the clots are what usually causes me the most pain. That sounds very normal to me. If you are just taking the Seasonal for the first time, a side effect would be that your periods would be irregular. This would be expected also. When using BC for the first time, you have to use other protection at first. If you were not doing that all of the time, of course there is a chance of pregnancy. Take the test to ease your mind. However, wait about two weeks so that you can likely get an accurate result from the test. Please let us know and try to relax in the mean time. Best wishes.
