Jokes aside. I've been prescribed with prednisone for several allergies and hives. The night after the first dose I couldn't sleep well. Actually, I slept well until around 3 AM when I woke up and start tossing and turning for a few hours. The next morning despite being awake for almost 4 hours, I woke up feeling so much energy that I literally had an urge to jump, dance or to go running. I knew something was going on, because I'm not an energetic person. Anyway, I managed to clean my whole house, kitchen, bathroom, even my car. I did the laundry and dishes, and still had enough energy to finish projects I had been putting off for weeks. My mood was really great the whole day and I was ultra productive at work tomorrow. Is this a reaction to prednisone, or something else? Because I've heard that prednisone may cause adverse reactions from these I've experienced, like headaches, irritability, thyroid problems and weight gain.

It's a good one, too :) But seriously, I guess it's because of experiences such as yours is that insomnia and mood disorders are at the top of the list of prednisone side effects. And mood disorders do include both depressive and manic behaviors, it just might ne that different people experience different effect.

What you describe sounds like a manic episode or a hyperactive state, similar to those that people suffering from bipolar or ADHD suffer from - but without the prednisone. It was just your body reacting to all the hormonal changes medication brought, but of course, side effects should stop as soon as you stop using it. At least I hope it helps you with allergies!
