I would like to know more about the hormone testosterone. What happens if the body does not produce enough of it? Does this affect the sexuality of a man? Thank you for any info.

The testes produce testosterone regulated by a complex chain of signals that begins in the brain. Testosterone deficiency can result from disease or damage to the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, or testicles that inhibit hormone secretion and testosterone production. This is also known as hypogonadism. Insufficient testosterone production can lead to abnormalities in muscle and bone development, underdeveloped genitalia and diminished virility. Testosterone production increases rapidly in puberty and decreases rapidly after age 50 and men with obesity, diabetes or hypertension may be twice as likely to have low testosterone levels. Testosterone deficiency can be present at birth (congenital) or may develop later (acquired). If you are male and worried that this might be a case with you, seek professional help and remember that you have nothing to be embarrassed about.
