Help! I have been on cymbalta 60mg since the medication first came out.. so over a decade.. my husband and I just decided we want to try and have a baby.. so I have been trying to get off this medication.. at first I jumped to 30mg for 2 weeks.. however, I went back up after the second week because of all the awful side effects.. and am now jumping all around on doses.. this week however.. I have been on 40mg.. and am trying to bare the pain.. I'm so scared because no one seems to know how to get off it.. and I'm wondering if I should just stop and struggle for a while.. issue is how long is that? Is this drug impossible to get off of? Should I give up on my dream to have a child? Or is it possible and should I just suffer through it to get my body healthy again? I'm super scared and want some feedback on what is best for me to do since the doctors seem to not be able to help.

I was o 60 mg Cymbalta for last year. I dropped the dose to 30 mg 10 days ago and started taking fish oil supplements, vitamin b1, B3,, vitamin D ,Vitamin D3 with calcium, Tumeric, multi vitamin and magnesium tablets. I had three doses of evening primrose oil during the day and two tablets Valerian at night.
During this time I had a few brief instances of dizziness, several bad headaches, not brain Zaps!, almost no sweating and slept 5 to 6 hours a night compared to my 1 to 2 hours previously.
Three days ago I dropped the dose to half of the 30 mg capsule by taking out half of the little balls. No change to side effects as yet.
I have been going to the heated pool nearby and doing 2 hours of swimming and exercising on a physio programme.
I am resting during the day reading mainly.
I am seeing my doctor tomorrow with the intention of not taking anymore Cymbalta but perhaps substituting a milder tablet if required. I was taking it for. neuropathy of the feet which it did help but I got nearly all the side effects which I thought were additional medical issues! I am leaving on a 3 month holiday to Europe in two weeks and couldn't bear the thought of sweating my way around on holiday and never sleeping at night.
I am determined never to take this drug again.
I hope this helps someone. After having major spinal surgery 18 months ago I have had to slowly come down off massive doses of Endone so I no all about withdrawal. So far I am not finding it excessively bad but will be watching out for any nasties!
I do believe the vitamin supplements are what have made it possible I wasn't taking anything but omega 3 prior and magnesium.

Hi there. I highly reccommend a group cymbalta hurts worse on facebook. They have a tonne of information on this drug and tapering methods to get off. Im down from 60mg to approx 28mg using the tapering method and although it has taken a while to get here, I have had little to no withdrawals from reducing. A big reduction is not recommended as it plays havoc with your nervous system. I went from 60mg to 20mg in 4 weeks with my drs method and was extremely ill so went back up and after I was feeling stable again, I started tapering by bead counting and alongside taking a load of vitamins and supplements have had no problems since. Duloxetine messed with my liver function and many other things so can't wait to be off this stuff! It can be done so no, don't ever give up on your dream of having a baby!!! Best of luck to you :) xx

Was on 20 mgs of Cymbalta for 14 days tapering off of Effexor. Went on Cymbalta by itself and developed terrible upper abdominal pain and dark stools. I quit taking it 5 days ago and that's when I developed the terrible symptoms. Since I stopped the 20 mgs., the lowest dose, the therapist thought I would be okay since I had taken the med for only 14 days. Anybody have a similar experience.

Hi! I am following the same taper plan as wsffv did in the post where she says her doctor had her taper from 60 mg to 30 mg and so on. It's day 1 and I feel pretty good. Some nausea and a mild headache. My doc also told me to call him to report any major discomfort so he can help. I'm feeling confidant that I'll be fine. Seems like those that want to sue Eli Lilly just want compensation and don't seem like they want to get better. I'm optimistic that Ill be back to normal soon.

Hi, here's my dilemma, I started taking Cymbalta 30mg for 30 days, then doctor increased it to 60mg which I've only taken for ten days. I'm starting to taper off now. My doctor said since I've only been on the 60mg for 10 days, I can jump back to 30mg immediately and that is what I'm worried about. I don't think he knows what he's talking about because he told me to take 30mg for 10 then 30mg ever other day for a week to 10 days then 30 mg every 2 days for a week then stop all together. I plan on using the bead counting method instead, I just don't know if should start higher than 30. Anyone else tapered off after increasing dosage for less than 15 days?

Hi there. I have been on it for 8 years+ so am not in a position to answer whether or not starting a taper at 30mg after taking 60mg for 10 days would be ok or not but after hearing stories from people that have been on it a short while, this can still be a too big a jump and cause many withdrawal issues as it only takes 5 days for the body to become 'hooked' so to speak. Everyone is different though and I think it is a case of listening to your body. I would highly reccommemd NOT to do it yoir doctors way and miss doses though. I did it my drs way which was pretty much the same and I was iller than ill so went back up, stabilised on that then started my own taper of removing 5% of the current dose every 10-14 days depending on how i feel. If i feel a bit blurgh i hold for longer. although I have had minor issues, there has been nothing major like when i did it my drs way. If you start at the 30mg, Id see how it goes and if you suffer bad withdrawals then maybe you can look at increasing your starting point. I would reccommend that at any drop, just make sure you feel ok before dropping again

Thank you! I did take the 30mg, will start from 60mg tonight. I already feel jittery.

I also take Topamax 100 and Botox shots for chronic migraines
Fiorecet for Migraine onset
Wellbutrin 300XL for depression
Synthroid for thyroid
I had to stop taking my Zomig for migraine onset because the Cymbalta combo was too dangerous.

My main concern is increase in migraines and fatigue. I already feel so tired my muscles burn like I just forced myself to do one more rep at the gym and I'd just be putting a load of clothes in the machine. I've stopped functioning all together. I'll be 50 in Oct. and I have an awesome six year old son. My miracle baby. My husband has literally taken over since I've been on Cymbalta, and my son has been staying at my Mom's house for the last two weeks. I have not left my house since June except for Drs. appt. I told my dr. this med was making me irritable and possibly contributing to my depression and migraines, he said it was due to low dosage and increased it to 60mg. My poor kid would see me in bed and goes to the freezer and get an ice pack for my head automatically, that's not living.

I want to make sure I do this the right way the first time. I'm thinking about trying Mike's method of 1% decrease per day, along with the supplements. The way he explains it, your brain doesn't have all that time to adjust to the lower dosage and get addicted to it, therefore you don't suffer many withdrawals, unlike those who do even though they're taking such tiny amounts. If the withdrawals come on, I'll switch to the 5%. My brain is so fried right now, I don't know what to do. I didn't fall asleep til 7:30am this morning, and woke up by 10:30am. It's been like that for days.

I know the feeling. This is day three for me. I was on 60 mg per day as well...and I'm finding I'm mad at the world for every little thing. People asking me too many questions, crunching when they chew...etc.... I just want to lock myself away from the entire world right now. I was doing okay the first two days, but today, I feel nauseated as all get up; I want to cry for no reason and I'm mad at everything. I had a health nutritionist suggest something called "Calm" a magnesium supplement; but I'm trying to figure out what to do about the nausea and dizziness. I do NOT want to go back to taking the Cymbalta...was on it for a year for fibromyalgia and depression...all it did was turn me into an emotionless zombie...not to mention I gained 70 lbs; and have no desire to do anything...
