I took effexor for 7 years and due to horrible side effects such as loud ringing in my ears and wild impulsive behavoirs and also I lost my insurance I weaned myself off of it 3 1/2 years ago. I suffered horrible nightmareish withdrawls  lasting days to weeks after each gradual reduction in dosage while other withdrawl symptoms lasted over a year. I thought that I would never be able to hold a full time job again and was only able to work a graveyard part-time job for at least a year because I couldn"t cope with  daytime active normal people. The ringing in my ears is here to stay but it has decreased. This is the short story. Overall I feel Ive overcome most of the damage but ocasionally I get dizzy with a loss in balance and my cognition doesnt work right and with the lasting ringing in my ears I am reminded of my experiences with effexor. My family also went through all the bad times with me and in alot of way it was worst for them.

Hi,

I hope you've gotten through this ordeal by now but my guess is that you haven't. There are a lot of us going through this. If you are interested, I just opened a chat room for us. Right now, it's just me and one other person
