Hello Everyone,

I am pleased to have found this forum, and am really hoping someone can offer some advice.

I am a 41 year old woman, and 2 years ago I had problems very long cycles,  low abdo pain and intermittent brown discharge and was sent for a trans-vaginal scan which showed up a couple of ovarian cysts. I was told my period should come soon as my uterus lining was thick, and the cysts should resolve on their own. Well, my period didn't arrive, so my GP gave me a short course of progesterone and the period came. After a second scan, the cysts had gone. My cycle then returned to 32 days as normal.

I had the usual PMS symptoms and a period at the end of Jan 2013, but it literally lasted only 1 day. 4 days later there was blood when I wiped whilst going to the toilet, then 8 days after that I had fresh spotting, then another incident of brown discharge (like old blood) 5 days after that. I also had bloating,  low abdo pain, especially when walking - like a dragging, heavy sensation - and niggling twinges in my lower back and ovary areas.

I saw my doctor on Feb 21st, and she has referred me for another scan, due to my history of cysts. I also had a cervical smear.

I was due another period Feb 26th, and have not had ANY PMS symptoms and no period at all. Matters are not helped as my referral was sent to the wrong hospital scanning department (pre-natal instead of trans-vaginal) and the hospital said they would 'redirect it', and yet I have got NOTHING sent out to me, so I am still waiting for the scan date.

I have been under some stress recently, but having suffered a breakdown in 2004, and never missed any periods then, I doubt this is the culprit. My diet is not as good as it should be, but I do take multi-vitamins daily to offset that a bit. I also suffer from insomnia (get to sleep at 5/5.30am usually) after years of working only night shifts, but this has never affected my periods before.

I am getting increasingly anxious about this. I am not getting any younger, and have yet to have a child, and I am so scared that ship has passed for me. I hadn't given up hope of having children, though I am aware time is against me.

Can anyone offer any opinion or advice, please? Also, ther is absolutely NO POSSIBILITY WHATSOEVER that I am pregnant as I last had sex in March 2012.

Thanking you in advance for any help :)

I'm sorry this is happening and can only imagine how you are feeling. It's frustrating to not know for sure what is going on.

I think the scan, when you get a date sorted for it, will probably explain what is going on. While it is normal for us all to get the odd period here and there or even miss a period now and then, only to have it arrive late, given that you'd have issues in the past, perhaps that is the cause again.

I hope you get some answers, I wish you all the best x

Thank u. I just wondered if anyone had similar experiences. Not having a date for the scan, or knowing what is happening is driving me crazy.

Thanks anyway for your kind reply.
