I am 24 yrs. old and when I first started taking birth control at about 19 yrs. old about six months after taking it I noticed a bulge at my armpit I figured it was from the birth control since that was the only thing that could have caused it. Have you heard of this before? And is surgery the only way to get rid of it?

The bulge you noticed doesn’t necessarily have to be connected with the birth control pills. I believe it is a lymph node that is a bit swollen, and it could be present because of some inflammation in your body. The lymph nodes always indicate a problem in your organism. If you haven’t noticed any other symptoms, maybe it is still too early, but you just be prepared.
You should know that swollen lymph nodes are the symptom for bacteria and viral infection, and also malignancy. You should pay attention to your breasts, as there is a possibility of a breast cancer, as it can enlarge the nodes in the armpit as well.
You should let your doctor examine you and determine the nature of this bulge. It could also be lipoma, a collected fat tissue under the skin, forming a knot and a bit movable under the skin. So, you see, it is better not to make guesses as there are many possibilities what this is.

Hello! I haven’t heard of an armpit (or any other) bulge caused by birth control pills. Have you seen a doc about it, had it checked and confirmed that it was due to the hormones? It can easily happen that the bulge and the pills were just a coincidence.

I wouldn’t play with it especially since the bulge did not go away! Was it your doctor who suggested a surgery or did s/he suggest a biopsy to determine what this could be.

It happens that hairs in grow and get infected causing bumps, but it could also be a sign of a near-by tumor. I don’t want you to panic, I am just making suggestions since you didn’t give much info about the lump and if you had it checked thoroughly.

I had a very annoying side effect from bc pills. I develop dark spots on my face and I still have a problem dealing with them.

I have no idea what could have caused the buldge you are talking about however if you are 24 now and this happened so many years ago why did you wait so long to figure out what it is? Did you ask your doc about it or your mom/dad etc.? This could be serious such as cancer or who knows...

My advice to you is that you need to see a doctor right away and get this thing figured out.

Best of luck ;-)

I just switched from a non-estrogen birth control, to an estrogen birth control, and I just realized a bulge in my armpit too. My first thought was this has to do with the birth control and hormone changes in my body. I called my doctors office today and the doctor wants to see me this week to determine what this could be. I just think its odd that as soon as I get on estrogen birth control, this bulge/lump shows up. And to know that someone else has the same exact thing happening, is even more odd. I hope it is nothing serious.

I was on BC for decades. In my 30s they changed to a stronger pill and my armpits both swelled up almost right away and got very tender. They have remained that way even almost TWO DECADES after being OFF the pill. I am sure it is due to the pill, just not sure why. Dr says it's auxilliary breast tissue, but I don't know about that.

I'm very into alternative healing these days after being a victim of western medicine for so long and I think maybe the BC pills somehow lead to the lymph system getting stagnant and clogged. I believe this may be true because I've recently started using a vibration plate/platform for overall health and have noticed my pits starting to go back to normal!

Anyway, after much research I believe this is because the plate causes the lymph to begin to move and drain properly. But I STILL believe the BC is what sets off the stagnation in the first place. May sound crazy, but the body is a complex system and allopathic doctors NEVER view the body holistically, as it must be, (because all our systems are linked), so good luck finding a western dr who actually truly understands much of anything besides a broken bone.

So, even if you stop taking BC, your armpits will probably remain puffy and tender. That's my experience anyway. Look into ways to get the lymph to move and drain and see if this resolves the issue. Surgery is an invasive option and if you can avoid it, do.

I feel like I have found my people. I’ve been on the pill for about 3 years now and I only take the active pills. Right now I have this huge bulge under my arm that no doctor can explain. It’s up and down but the only thing I haven’t tried is NOT using the BC and something just came over me making me wonder if it’s because of this .
