I have been using diane 35 as a contraceptive only a month now and it happened to me for the first time that I have experienced breakthrough bleeding. The color of the blood is brown similar to later days of period. Before this I have been on yasmin and I haven’t had any similar problems. Is this breakthrough bleeding connected to the pill or should I be looking for another underlying causes?

Hi! Breakthrough bleeding is most commonly seen as a side-effect of oral contraceptives and other forms of hormonal contraception. It is common for the beginning when you first start taking contraceptives or when you are going from one particular oral contraceptive to another, which is your case. It should be resolved within three cycles or so. If it doesn’t, you should consult a gynecologist.

i changed from my regular pill to diane35 because my gp told me it would help with my hormones that were causing more than usual pimples and bad complexion.

for two months i had the worst breakthrough bleeding on it.
the first month i changed from diane35 back to the pill i am on now it stopped.

i know a few women who this brand of pill doesnt work for.
simply change, its nothing big to worry about.
