I am about to start Alesse because I had emotional problems with Tri-Sprintec and am worried about breakthrough bleeding. If I get breakthrough bleeding, do I have to wait any length of time to have sex? In other words, is breakthrough bleeding a sign that my pill is currently not protecting me from pregnancy?

OR, will breakthrough bleeding make the pill ineffective for any length of time?

What about vomiting? Should I wait until I take my next pill to have sex?

I hope that makes sense. :-)

I don't think that breakthrough bleeding will increase pregnancy risk but you should wait a week or two before the pills start working to have unprotected sex.

Breakthrough bleeding doesn't mean that you are ovulating, it occurs due to increase in hormonal levels. Breakthrough bleeding may happen even a month after you started taking the pills.

So, make sure you are using additinal protection for the first week or two.

also if you vomit less than six hours after taking a pill you can assume it wasnt fully and properly digested, so it counts as a missed pill, so if that happens use additional precautions for the next seven days like a condom.

you shouldnt have unprotected sex until after your first cycle of pills usually.
