Coming off Depo Provera after one shot

it was like that for me for the first year in a half I loved the depo then I tried to get off it and its been 7 months since ive had my last depo shot and I was on it for 3 years a year and a half ago i attempted to get off it and had what seemed like a period for a whole months I was so emotionally distraught and I gained 30lbs I had to just get a shot again. Not this time! I refuse to inject that poison in my body any longer....bad thing is i have severe cramps, back pain, bloating, gas, nausea, dizziness, headaches, brown clotty discharge and blurred vision. All these symptoms are new and are scaring me and no one at work seems to concerned with it. I don't recommend it for anyone and the only reason I got on it was because of this guy I liked. never again! I hope it goes better for you!

Hi, I am having the same problems as you. I love my boyfriend with all my heart, but I've been so emotional and psychotic lately. I got the Depo shot in June, and I've been bleeding for 6 months with only about a week worth of days where I wasn't bleeding. I only had one shot. I feel like this girl, that starts screaming and crying and doubting herself and wanting to kill herself, isn't me.

My question to you is, Did everything end up being ok between you and your boyfriend? I miss what we used to be, and I hate living like this, I feel like dying. How long did it take? I want to stop stressing out over this and get back to being happy.

I found this thread and just had ro reply. I have a mental illness so should never have been put on this. The month after my first shot I had to see my GP as I was suicidal! Luckily this wore off for the last two months but I've refused to have my second shot. The symptom I am now having after discontinuing it is acne. Never had acne before but now it's terrible! It's on my face, chest and even in my scalp! Appetite is through the roof so joining a slimming club.

I found the depo made my anxiety and depression 10 times as bad, even started self harming. Surprised I'm still alive if I am honest.

 I have been on the depo shot for 6 months I had only two shot I stop the depo shot in June of last year...It is driving me crazy I always have headaches and I am always mad.. Me and my husband always fight and I always get jealous over nothing..I don't like people talking to me I always just want to stay in my bed and be alone I was so depress..I didn't even want to take care of my kids it was like I was mad at the whole world...Also when I had my period in July I had very very big clots more bigger then a golf ball It will come out every time I pee..I did feel so good when I have my period because it is like I am peeing in my pants too... I also found out I was Pregnant  last December  3 but on December 12 I found out I had a ectopic  pregnancy.... I was thinking my be of the depo shot because of my period chance I was asking my doc. but he didn't say anything...I want to be pregnant again but I am scared because i might have another ectopic pregnancy...

hai,i am 35 years old and 132Lb .I am also healthy person with good life style .I Did horible mistake to take depo becouse the side effects are very bad and i took only one shot.Til today i am off 2 months and still have crazy bipolar personality I am very emocional .The emocions are cominng from nowhwere it is crazy ,becouse you feel is not real you but the acting people see is scary .I am ok in work but when i come home i feel bad mentaly and fyzicly i am so tired a lot and my brest pain is sooo bad plus my lower back is klling me so much.I really hate the day when i did the shot
.You need patient people around you at this time cuz i guess it takes time to get to normal.I still dont have perioud my body retaining watter and i guess thats the pain i have .i realy have hard time but we need stay positive and hope it will pass soon good luck to us i guess!and you not alone for sure at least is two of us haha

Hey everyone,I've been reading so many stories from all of you; i feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders, i now know i am not crazy and now I am 100% sure the depo is the cause of all my probems.I have had three shots now, my last only last week. At first i thought this was wonderful, no periods, no risk of pregnancy. How wrong was I?I am all over the place with my emotions, crying over really small things.I experience:intense insomnia which seems to be fueled by anxiety,I am paranoid and anxious about my relationship when i never have been before and my boyfriend is the most wonderful man I have ever met. I seem to be hell bent on finding problems and getting upset. The insomnia is worse when im with my boyfriendnausea, really bad hot flashes, acne all over body,irritability,head aches,joint pain (my shoulders always seem to ache now),sickness/nauseaI will not be continuing the depo, it has ruined my personality, and my relationship is crumbling. I have found a new strength knowing i am not alone, i want to thank you for that. I am an aspiring writing, recently starting a course. My first project I'm going to try and sell will be about this injection so i can warm all others that it is not safe.My doctor never told me it could cause some of the major problems it could, i was never told it could increase risk of cancer. And when i asked for the leaflet with the side affects, the nurse was hesitant and told me not to frighten myself! It's a bloody disgrace, no-one should be reccomended this, CONDOMS ARE THE WAY FORWARD!

omg everything makes sense now. ok, so in may 2011 i got my first and only shot. i didnt go back because i didnt know when my appointment was and i didnt want it anyways (i was forced by my mom to get it) i started gaining weight, getting depressed, and fighting with my boyfriend (bf at the time) because of my moodswings and paranoia. then late september (2011) i found out i was pregnant. they told me i had to come in for check ups since i just came off the shot. 3 weeks later i had a misscarage. my depression got extreamly worse than it was before i ever went on the shot. til this day i get nauseous out of no where for no reason, my period is weird it'll be regular for 6 months then mess up. me and my fiance dont use condoms and im not on birth control because im alergic to laytex and birth control scares me now, but we have never been able to get pregnant, not like we are trying but we arnt preventing it. it has been almost 2 years now and ive been worried that the shot prevented me from getting pregnant. he has noticed how paranoid i get, my anxiety levels are high, ive gotten so many panic attacks out of nowhere, and my depression will just show up out without warning. even after 2 years of being off of it i still get all of this!! im thankful my fiance has stuck around through all of this even if i wont be able to have his kids. i would never recomend this shot for anyone. the side effects on or coming off are all horrible, this shouldnt even be a possibility for birth control!

I have only gotten one shot it's up in a month and I'm not going back for the second! I have been bleeding for a whole month... I got on the soy cause I was told it would stop or slow down my period. I've been depressed and pissed off 24/7 and before the shot I was a very happy person! Now all I do is cry...

I had depo shot on Aug 12 12 and this is my 1st and only shot while I was on it I bleed I had periods but I had sex on Jan 17 18 I think on the 20 too 13 and I didn't have my period yet I took a lot of home pregnancy tests and all of them say no I'm not pregnant but I feel more sleepy more hungry more WORRY lol but I do want the baby but idk I heard it takes a long time to get pregnant but idk what should I do please help

this shot is not the perfect shot i got it for my first time and im suppose to be getting my second in 2 months , ive been bleeding for 4 weeks straight moody all the time crying pissed just not happy depressed shakey really bad headaches and dizziness, would not reccomend this shot it changes your life and relationships worst form of birth control will never take it again.

had we the same problem. I only got 1 shot back in August. It immediately stopped my periods and I started gaining weight. I didn't go back for my second shot cause I didn't like the way I felt on it. I didn't get another period untno the end of November and haven't had one since and it is now February. I went to my doctor today to get the results of the tests they did. And they told me that I have a complex cyst in my right ovary that is causing my ovary to be almost 3 times the size it should be and my lining in my uterus is thicker than it should be. They are talking about doing a full hysterectomy to fix my problems. it all depends on the results of the biopsy they did today. My doctor said that there is a good chance that all my problems are from the depo shot. Has anyone else had the same problems that I'm having? It would be nice to know that I'm not the only one that had this happen to them.

I thought I was the only one. I took my 1st and last shot on Sept. 2011 and I had my last period on Sept. 2012. I haven't gotten my period for about 5 months. I have taken pregnancy tests but nothing. I no longer have health insurance. And about these last 4 days I have had pelvic pains like stinging kind of pain. Bloating. Crying. I stress too much still and I get anxiety attacks once in a while. I feel like I'm a totally different person than how I used to be before the shot. I used to be really friendly and outgoing I was also way more confident and now I'm the opposite. I have really low self Steem and I'm really really jealous. My memory is not the best which I can forget what I did a few minutes ago. It's been its been a little more than a year since the shot was suppose to wear off. I wish somebody had warned me about how bad this shot could be. =[[

I took the shot one time back in Aug. 2012. I was due for my second shot in Nov. 2012 and I didnt because of panic attacks, anxeity, night sweats, sweating, bad thoughts, depression, feeling tired, weak, spotting, couldnt sleep. I had a period in Sept. 2012 and didnt spot spotting for a whole month in a half. Two weeks after I was due for my second shot more problems started. I started to get acid reflux and felt sick to my stomach. I lost my appettite and lost about 10 pounds and Im allready a small women. Certain food smells would make me feel sick. I never had any vommitting or anything but it made my body feel like I was pregnant which Im not for a fact. I can say that my periods did return. I had one in Dec. Jan and Feb. so at least that is back on track. I have read that it takes about 14 weeks for the shot to leave your body after the last shot and Im sure its different for everybody. I will never take this shot again and I pray everyday my body returns to normal.

My daughter took this shot last August for the first time. About 10 days after she developed a severe headache and vomitting. The headache lasted all 12 weeks of the medication being in her body. What's worse is she developed a blood clot in her jugular vein and a second one in her arm. She was otherwise a normal healthy girl. I dont know why this is still on the market reading all of the posts and symptoms people are having. She had many of the other symptoms as well but the clots were the biggest of all of the problems. She had to be on coumadin (blood thinners) for three months following the clots being found. She was hospitalized and had thousands of dollars worth of tests ran on her and everything in her body was normal. Many doctors confirmed the ONLY thing they could relate her illness to was the Depo Shot.
