Could you tell me if by taking Efexor 150mg per day can cause a problem with my thyroid. I never had any problems with this before and after about 8 months on the Efexor my thyroid is playing up. Feel dizzy, headaches and very tired. I am seeing my GP soon but would like to get more information before I do.

The symptoms you mention are common Effexor’s side effects. It is strange that you are experiencing them now. Thyroid problems are rarely reported with effexor. If they do appear, then thyroid gets enlarged. When do you have an appointment with your GP?

I am seeing the GP tomorrow evening. Hopefully it will help. I don't want to start taking medication for Thyroid because I have heard once you start there is a chance you will have to take it for life.

Taking Efexor could lessen the effect of your thyroid medication. I know that for a fact. My T4-values went down drastically when I started to take Efexor 75 mg/day. I hope that the GP checked your values and that you are fine now.

Im a 35 year old female on Efexor for about 3 years now and with the increase of medication up to 150mg, I started to gain weight. Many people thought "Oh it's just happy weight" I went from a size 12 and 160 lbs, 5'9 to over 230lbs and a size 18 now in just 3 years. I've changed my diet to much healthier foods, walk all the time about 15,000 steps a day and still no change. I'm down to 37.5mg of Efexor now and still gaining weight and feeling even more self contious. I've become more tired, nails brittle, swollen feet and hands, bloated after I eat certain things. I cannot do what I used to do being 160lbs, size 12 and 5'9 and my PCP told me this year that last year my Thyroid was low and did nothing about it. It makes you wonder what our doctor's are doing.
