Could you tell me the proper administration of diprivan in a surgical setting? I recently had a routine colonoscopy, when the diprivan was administered it burned so badly, I screamed and thrashed resulting in bruising on my arm from it hitting the rails of the bed. I was told this was routine and it does in fact burn SOME people. I have had multiple surgeries for various things, being sedated for 5 minutes to 5 hours, I have Never experienced Anything so torcherous or cruel in my life. Please advise me if I was treated properly.

Hi Tula,

It is a commonly used drug.  Pain, swelling, and blisters are listed side effects of Diprivan.

Hope it helps.

Thanks so much, I did know of a couple of other side effects, but thought lidocaine was added to prevent the burning I went through. When I complained to the facility, the anesthesiologist got on the phone and said usually beforehand they would administer (versed, (sp), and that's why in my previous surgeries, I didn't have this problem. Thanks again for your time.
