my question to cymbalta users is how long before the edema went down? i have been off of it for 5wks and still have edema to the point that it is scary....was really glad to see that someone else had the same problem and that i was not going out of my mind for no reason...

Just a quick note to those coming off Cymbalta slowly... I went from 120 to 60 to 30 in 10 weeks and had no withdrawal symptoms at all. What I was left with is 40 lbs extra weight gained over the past 3 years. Although motivated to exercise now and eating properly I still can not seem to lose anything... and weigh the same every day... no variance what so ever. Although Cymbalta helped through my depression what it left me with is unforseen depression over my weight gain.... now I am housebound due to lack of self esteem... can we ever win?

I have been on Cymblata for 13 months and started out on 30mgs then raised to 60. Gained 60 lbs, not good b/c I am a Type I diabetic using an insulin pump. My blood sugar has been almost impossible to control. Last week I decided to stop the cymbalta cold turkey--bad mistake! I have never felt so "out of it" in all my life! The "brain swishes" several posters described hit the mark among other strange things associated with withdrawals. Feels like I'm walking in quick sand in the middle of hurricane, can't think straight, nausea, can't sleep, and itching) thinking bugs are crawling on me! Thank God for the percocet I am taking. Most interesting though is when I read one post about severe neck pain & spasms. I had neck surgery to repair herniated disks on Nov. 1 and was thinking I made a BIG mistake b/c my neck pain has worsened A LOT more since surgery. Now I see it could be the withdrawals. Is anyone else having severe neck pain from Cymbalta withdrawals? My email is ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed **

I have been on cymbalta (120mg) for about 5 years and have been on a continual weight gain despite all my best efforts to lose weight...exercise, eating healthy etc... Reading everyone's post has made me realize that my problem may be with the cymbalta...
I struggle with anorexia and bulemia so the weight gain has been very distressing... I'm thinking of going off my cymbalta (in fact went off cold turkey for the past 4 days) I've been feeling extremely emotional, dizzy, blurring vision and headache... From what I've read I think I'm pretty lucky so far as it could of been worse. I am also grateful that maybe I am finding the reason for my weight gain... I also didn't know that my lack of motivation could be caused by the cymbalta so I'm anxious to see if maybe I'll feel less lethargic when I've been off for awhile. Thanks everyone for their post...

This is for everyone that has cymbalta issues. This also helps with ms.

Magnesium Malate 1,300 mg  ---twice a day: sublingual vitamin B 12 5000 mcg --- twice a day.

Without these I would be in real bad shape, yes I still get the leg zaps but not so bad, and not all the time.

It's nice to be free from cymbalta after two years. Also I've been free for one week, and it seems to me that I was lucky...

Kayt,

I wish I could offer some good news but I am one month from the last time I took a Cymbalta and I am still in hell.  I am not as bad as I was because the head buzzing has slowed to maybe 2 to 4 a day.  But I am sooo tired I can hardly move most of the time.  I feel like I have weights on my arm/legs.  I have had the worst nightmares ever and those are starting to taper off but this has been crazy.  I tried to take some suggestions from the internet and tried Benadryl and that didn't work.  I pulled apart the 15 mg caps of Cymbalta and poured out 3/4 and that did seem to do anything.  I have drank tons of water and went for longs brisk walks and that didn't change anything. At this point I am just taking it day to day.  I have seen people ask about feelings of suicide (which is a feeling I that some people have experienced) I have not had that feeling either (Thank You God) but I could see where detoxing from this medication would make you want to off yourself just to stop the horrible side effects.

I'm hoping the doctor can tell me something today at my visit that will make me feel better.  Hang in there and good luck.

Thank You, Thank You!!!!!! This is exactly what I was looking for. It is still worth a try. I have gone from 120lbs to 150 to 185. I eat healthy and do intense cardio for 1 hour 5 days a week. I am barely breaking even!!!!!! My psychiatrist refuses to act on this. It seems that she almost does not care, just interested in writing refill prescriptions and shoving me out the door. I need a new doc. Thanks for taking the time to help others :)

I am new here and I am having a horrible experience with Cymbalta. They started me on 30mg for osteoarthritis and back pain. It was fine for a while then they upped it to 60mg. I freaked out! I thought about drowning myself or stabbing myself, very scary stuff. I wasn't depressed at all and thanks to this evil drug I am. They lowered it back to 30mg and I am in the process of weaning off. The withdrawals are awful I don't know this stuff is legal. I also take Lamictal 400mg for epilepsy, which I've taken for 8 years with great results. I have a job and children I honestly don't know how I am going to make it off this stuff. Oh and it didn't do a thing to help the pain so I still have that problem on top of this.
I don't know why anyone would put another human being through this. Aren't the doctors supposed to have our best intrest in mind when they are treating us?????
If anyone knows of any supplements or ANYTHING to help through the withdrawals I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks. I'm just starting my journey off Cymbalta. I have made up my mind to use spiritual/psychological methods of dealing with my emotions. Now that I've read so many horror stories about getting off it, it's so good to read your encouragement. I hope it won't be too bad, since I have not been on it for very long. It really doesn't do much good anyway, and I have more pain with it than without.

God bless you!

hi.  on cymbalta for  several years. not even sure if it was prescribed for my back pain or aggressive behavior or both - gotta love those drs!!   30m  2x, but usually just take i and hoard the other .  ins wont cver enough for the full year.  anyway tried to stop cold turkey before and got so aggressive about everything  went back on. hint:  dont go to walmaet - service will drive you nuts! now decided to try cold turkey again - now in day 3  and woke up with a bit of a headache  but if thats it  no big deal.  I'm bipolar (i think)  and last time was in a real down cyclewhich i think caused alot of the probem.  this time I'm om a good "up" cycle and so far so good!  taking the omega 3 capsules 3 times a day  that several people talk about,   but besides a baby aspirin a day thats it.  I'm starting to think the problems withdrawing are related to my  bi polar cycle as  much as anything else.  cant really control the bp cycle  but wiil  post  progress  in the future.  good luck to us all!

Nuerotin will help with withdraw form Cymbal-ta. Most could be in your head, dizziness is a side effect of coming off cymbalta but most people i know don't have that rough a time.
