Hello! I have been on depakote for about 7 weeks now. I haven’t had any side effects until now. A month ago my face broke out in acne, and whatever I did won’t make them go away. I tried Minocine for a month now, didn’t work. I don’t know what else to do as I have never had much acne in my life. Do you think that there is a correlation between my acne and depakote. I mean, it must be that!!! I don’t know what else, considering I am 34 year-old female.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not but I have also experienced acne breakout with depakote. It was just after I started taking it. I knew it was depakote, because it was the only new thing I did. I told my doctor, and he said that there shouldn’t be a correlation between acne and depakote but still I insisted on changing the medicine.

it absolutely is from the depakote. i have gone on and off it over the last 5 years and every time i am on it, i brake out, when i'm off it, my complexion is spotless. it's too bad there isn't more online about this awful side effect.

taken me years to realize the correlation, but i know now depakote it the culprit. I stopped using it and only went back on it when stress got bad after job loss and cancer, it helps my stress, but does a job on my face. If I go off it and am still stressed, it doesn't happen. So originally I thought it was foods, but after changing foods around, I know its the depakote.

this is absolutely the case. i never had acne in my entire life--through high school and into my early twenties. i started depakote and instantly i broke out horribly, as if i were fourteen. i too was told my doctor that the acne should be unrelated to the depakote. i've now go on and off it through the years and like clockwork the acne comes and goes. it really is unfortunate there isn't more online. serious acne is an awful side effect, particularly at a time in life when it is highly a-typical to have acne.

please help me someone, i was on this horrible drug depakote 100mg twice a day for three weeks. i started to get acne, so i stopped it. it is now a month later and the breakouts continue. please tell me that this will clear. my skin was perfect before this awful drug. those of you who stopped taking it because of acne, how long did it take before your skin cleared? i curse the day i listened to a doctor over my own instincts which were not to take this

Minocine takes at least 6-8 weeks to work.

Hey! My acne just started to break out from depakote and I dont know how I'll manage because depakote was working wonderfully for my mood. I've been taking it for almost 6 months now and it just started breaking out. But I took lithium once and when I stopped it I had terrible acne. It took months for it to go away entirely but it is going to go away, dont worry! Just make sure you dont burst them or pick on them and see a dermathologist, because you dont want to get scars from the pimples.

I am on Dapakote too - and am finding. Acne and cystic breakout on my backside, and only acne on my face. I have prrsustently pop, puncture to open them up to reduce them only to find more replace them. Thieves oil, proactive wash and repair creams help, witch hazel. Unfortunately most docs will refuse to change this medication to treat Bipolar in my lenghty experience because its the most trusted mood stabilizer.

I had terrible breakouts when I started Depakote. I swear by Proactive. You have to be diligent, but it worked for me.

Good luck!

You know, it's not necessarily the depakote, but the toxin it is to the body and your liver not being able to completely remove it itself. So it literally excretes it from pores. And in the face, those pores clog up, causing acne.

True that. I am a 22 years old male and because of a bipolar diagnose i am forced to take depakine 1000 mg every night before I go to sleep. Unfortunately since I started to take this medicine the acne doesnt go away. Some periodes more intense than others but definitly because of this. I am more depressed than before and the doctore refuses to change. Instead he wants to increase to dosis because of my mood. It is really hard to convince him that I dont need it but I really do not know what to do I want that acne to go away. Before I took that medicine I rarely had acne. They didnt told me this was ruining my body. I wish there was a natural treatment for bipolar. They help they gave me only make me feel worse about myself..
