In reality, the hymen can be 'broken' at anytime from sports or physical activities OTHER than sex (at anytime in life). Virginity is whether you have had sex or not. Having a scanner inserted vaginally to examine the uterus, ovaries, etc is NOT the equivalent of having sex. The transvaginal ultrasound can cause pain and discomfort if you are not having sex(also if you don't wear tampons). The best way to ease discomfort and pain is to relax during the ultrasound. Most of the discomfort is from tensing the muscles in the pelvic region.

I don't know what idiots keep telling us to drink 40oz of water before this test, when knowing FULL WELL your bladder will leak. That's only for pelvic ultrasounds. I did mine a month ago and the only thing that I heard from the techs and receptionists WAS, "What id**t told you that?"
It doesn't hurt. It's odd but doesn't hurt.
I had to go in to check a pain I had in my ovaries. Who would have thought that it was the opposite ovary that had the issues. I have a calcification next to my left ovary. It's been the source of all my problems. From this current 9DAY light period (which by the way I was late due to a very stressful previous month..friend dying and a very long cold after dental work).8negative pregnancy tests and not really flowing like mad, more like it's taking its sweet time to catch up for lost time.
Anyway anyone who's getting the transvaginal, it's not as scary as it sounds. You'll feel a rubbing against the cervix but that's about it. Don't tense up while inserting the wand. It'll be over before you know it. It lasts about 30minutes. Seems long for an ultrasound but it goes by quickly.

Hello!
I just thought that I would reassure you all:
I had an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound done a couple of weeks ago as part of investigations for PCOS (surprisingly everything came back normal!!). I am 19, and like many of you I am also a virgin! I wasn't even asked if I was sexually active or not when the ultrasound was done, so I didn't question it! However I can honestly say that the scan was no painful at all, although it was slightly uncomfortable at first, it was not anywhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be!
Good luck with all of yours tests etc x

I went for an external and internal scan for the same thing! They also turned me away because I'm a virgin. They did not find anything on my external because it was unclear, they still refused to do the internal, I'm so frustrated as to why they keep saying no!

I had to say something even tough this is an old discussion. I have just came back from the ultrasound and I couldn't bear the pain of the transvaginal ultrasound I am a virgin and couldn't take it...when I told the nurse I couldn't as it was just too painful she stopped and I asked how much more she needed to go and she said another 1 cm, I told her to try again but she said if painful she didn't want to put me through that and I didn't insist I really thought I had bled but I I didn't. I didn't want to loose my virginity that way I am getting married soon and wanted to keep that intact. not sure those saying it is not painful if you are not a virgin you don't know it was like someone was trying to drill a hole inside me thank you.

I'm sitting in the chair waiting for my doctor as I write this.
I've never had a pap smear, nor have I had sex. Seeing as I can't wear tampons either, no one including myself has been down there.
It hurt a bit, but you need to relax.
It'll hurt a bit if you're like me, but not unbearable.

No they don't do the trans vaginal test if you r a virgin. Just like you dont need a pap smear if your a virgin. you only need a pap smear when your actually sexually active mean intercourse penis i n vagina..

Tried to get a trans vaginal ultrasound today and could not get the wand in. It's really large on the end and I guess I'm just small. It hurt so much trying to insert it I just gave up. I have never had sex with men but I do use regular size tampons.

It definitely helps. I am going for a transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow and very inexperienced and in past experiences when I told them I was a virgin, they refused to probe me and the results were inconclusive, so getting probed is the only way to find out what is going on. I held off on doing pep smears because they are very painful for me, feels like something is pitching me, but the pain goes away as soon as as the speculum is taken out. I hope that is the case with the transvaginal ultrasound. Thank you for the info. :)

So much misinformation! Women who have regular sex can still hav tighter vagina and part of their hymen! It had nothing to do euthanasia tampons or 'virginity', m****s

So much damaging and ignorant wrong information being spread here!
Being a virgin or not has absolutely zero bearing on anything, other than it might make it more uncomfortable. MIGHT. A virgin who uses tampons and vibrators probably won't find it uncomfortable, a non-virgin with little experience of penetration probably will.
TV tests are needed for a wide range of reasons, virginity is nothing to do with it.
You cannot lose your virginity through anything other than having sex. And besides virginity is a social construct created as a way to oppress women. I mean, would you consider a lesbian who is having regular sex a virgin just because she's never been penetrated by a penis? Of course not!
